  • My name is Steve Thomas. I am a distributor with UWDC, but had been a customer long beforehand.
Personally I have found the service to be good and it has saved me money - I'm not saying that's the case with everybody, so you have to reflect on what you find.
But here's a true story. I met a lady the other week who was renting a phone from a well-known company who charged her £70 per month. To cap it all, the phone wouldn't work properly and she spent no end of time trying (unsuccessfully) to resolve the situation.
I must have looked quite shocked at the price she was paying because she asked how much UW would have cost.
I showed her the calls tarrif, line rental, and membership fee, and suggested she buy a good quality phone from a supermarket.
    So she did.
Phone was a one-off payment of £50. Her monthly charges dropped to £22.
If I hadn't talked to her, the chances are she'd still be paying £70 a month for a poor service.
Can we help? In some cases we can't. In others we can help customers get better deals from their existing providers - it's amazing how rates tumble when people say they want to switch to UW!
But I also know there are plenty of really satisfied customers who simply prefer our service. There's room for everybody!

Wow... which tariff are you on Cardew may I ask? One of the fixed ones?

BG fixed to April 30 2010, was available in late 2005.

Lucky you... wish I was on that one. ;)

Even so, your consumption must be pretty high.

We have all seen plenty of "evidence" that uw reps don't seek out just vulnerable folk to prey on.
But nobody has seen any evidence from you to back up your accusation about me. Unless you can provide it, why would anybody believe anything you say?

I refer you to your previously posted comment about me "Nigewick, you used to boast you are an ex-copper.

Is this how you used to stitch people up?"

Do you still say that you stand by this quote stating that I committed criminal offences when a Police Officer or will you apologise?

Simply pointing out how much more expensive UW prices are compared with other firms.
How do you explain Carmine's best deal being with Utility Warehouse and the fact that I pay less than I would with any other utility company? I am quite happy to admit that Utility Warehouse may not suit everybody. Can you at least bring yourself to agree that it suits at least one peron, ME?

    Do you agree those figures?
For my area(Midlands) taking the average consumption of 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity and paying by Direct Debit. - using Enrgyhelpline.

British Gas Standard tariff = £1,140

    Cheapest Tariff(BG websaver 3) = £1,022

    UW = £1,199

So UW costs £59 more than BG Standard tariff and £177 more than the cheapest dual fuel tariff.

If you want to pay quarterly you are even worse off with UW - you pay £215 more.

Any UW rep want to query those figures?

The examples I posted of the deceitful methods used by the uw to get customers (in answer to your post # 3288 which said I had not shown any evidence) isn't fabricated at all, its fact:

We have all seen plenty of "evidence" that uw reps don't seek out just vulnerable folk to prey on.

    eg:

    1) The true life videos of the gullible spanish teachers getting signed up, first as customers, then as uw reps.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdZcBC0Kf9k (Note the deceitful way the rep tells the gullibles that the switching sites are corrupt and keep uw prices artificially high because uw refuses to pay them, and the worthless guarantee used as a "sales tool".)

    2) The training video encouraging uw reps to take advantage of their friends good nature by asking them to help out over a problem at work, when really they intend signing them up for multiple services.

    http://www.networkerplus.co.uk/videos/practice-appointment-shannon-griffin.html

    3) Keggs advising about his scheme for carefully parking his car in car parks so that he can deceitfully leave messages on the cars on either side thanking the drivers for their careful parking, and taking the opportunity of introducing himself (what is that all about??)

    4) The deceitful method advised by uw to its reps for distributing literature on the streets whereby the rep pretends he is lost and asks for directions. To "reward" the stranger for helping him, the rep gives his card saying thanks for helping me, here's a way I can help you save some money.

    5) The deceitful way keggs cold calls prospects on the pretence of carrying out the worthless survey just to then get an opportunity to (not) sell uw services.

    etc etc

I think its the only possibility to save money with UW is if you take their whole package. Im fundamentally opposed to doing this exact thing, companies do this because it reduces 'churn' rate. Simply because when folk have everything with one supplier it usually means the 'cant be arsed' factor happens, folk cannot be bothered to look about for a better deal.

Also you have to need the package which UW offer in to make them worthwhile in the first place. Does every UW customer really need every component of their particular package? Why not take the cheapest online deal and shop at Asda. After all they have won the cheapest retailer award from The Grocer for the past 11 years, not Sainsburys.
