So when my auntie turned to me to check the bills against there tier prices and BG who she was with... soon to be back with.... UW lure people into a false sence of security saying we are cheaper the BG for gas standard tariff isnt hard, but there electricity is very competitive. the comparison up in glasgow is SP in UW leaflets yet again showing UW are great. Triple value guarentee .... yeah right.
looking at tier prices it worked out with all the hidden prices of UW in this region she would be £80 worse off with UW a year than BG standard Tariffthe standing charge for both gas and electricity worked out at like £40 alone.
As cardew said they use BG most expensive tariff for gas and im more than certain SP most expensive tariff for elec
That's a pretty sad story, hope you get it sorted soon.
I hope that this particular UW rep didn't prey on your auntie because she was vulnerable and didn't understand the tarrif structure? You should consider making a formal complaint to Ofgem.0 -
From all the evidence we have seen, they will prey on anyone, not just the vulnerable.
No-one expects their friend, or someone recommended to them by a friend to come into their home and deliberately deceive them.
But we have seen this is their standard way of doing business.
They firmly implant the idea that thanks to their guarantee the prospect will be getting the cheapest energy, then concrete this by saying just try us out risk free.
It isn't risk free at all - should you be on the ball and discover they are far from being the cheapest, and wish to take them up on their risk free offer, they aren't going to refund you the difference you've ended up paying them whilst you've been a member of their (worthless) discount club!
The risk all lands on your shoulders.
That isn't how the rep makes it sound when he is(n't!) selling it to you!
Notice the emphasis on the word "cheapest" when the rep discusses the worthless guarantee with the gullible spanish teachers:

According to Cardew, the 'average' family in the UK is currently paying more for their gas and electric than they would with UW.Call me Carmine....

By what twisted logic do you deduce that?
Carmine has presumably taken the figure of £1300 that I posted in another thread. That was someone who was querying past costs - before the recent reductions.
So what is the postion on UW prices compared to others.
For my area(Midlands) taking the average consumption of 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity and paying by Direct Debit. - using Enrgyhelpline.
British Gas Standard tariff = £1,140
Cheapest Tariff(BG websaver 3) = £1,022
UW = £1,199
So UW costs £59 more than BG Standard tariff and £177 more than the cheapest dual fuel tariff.
If you want to pay quarterly you are even worse off with UW - you pay £215 more.
Any UW rep want to query those figures?0 -
LOL. You said:You should bear in mind that the average family(with cheaper gas) has* an annual bill of £1,300.
*Note present tense here. Another porky/honest mistake?
To be fair to you, you're really not far off the mark, assuming that the 'average' punter pays his uncumbent gas supplier for gas and his regional leccy supplier for, err, leccy and eschews DD for the more traditonal quarterly cheque etc.
In the Yorkshire region the bill would come to £1263 per year (that's BG and npower) 20,500 and 3,300. So you may have (strangely and perversely) been almost correct, lol.Call me Carmine....

To be even fairer to myself!! IIRC the actual figure bandied about in the media was £1308pa, and the poster was querying a bill up to March 2009.
and to continue the exercise in semantics, I could query an 'uncumbent gas supplier' - although that term does have a Yorkshire ring about it;)0 -
Come on carmine, why haven't you joined UW yet? Just think, sit back and ring 0845/0870 number all day, bliss.;)0

From all the evidence we have seen
I refer you to your previously posted comment about me "Nigewick, you used to boast you are an ex-copper.
Is this how you used to stitch people up?"
Do you still say that you stand by this quote stating that I committed criminal offences when a Police Officer or will you apologise?

But nobody has seen any evidence from you to back up your accusation.
We have all seen plenty of "evidence" that uw reps don't seek out just vulnerable folk to prey on.
eg:
1) The true life videos of the gullible spanish teachers getting signed up, first as customers, then as uw reps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdZcBC0Kf9k (Note the deceitful way the rep tells the gullibles that the switching sites are corrupt and keep uw prices artificially high because uw refuses to pay them, and the worthless guarantee used as a "sales tool".)
2) The training video encouraging uw reps to take advantage of their friends good nature by asking them to help out over a problem at work, when really they intend signing them up for multiple services.
http://www.networkerplus.co.uk/videos/practice-appointment-shannon-griffin.html
3) Keggs advising about his scheme for carefully parking his car in car parks so that he can deceitfully leave messages on the cars on either side thanking the drivers for their careful parking, and taking the opportunity of introducing himself (what is that all about??)
4) The deceitful method advised by uw to its reps for distributing literature on the streets whereby the rep pretends he is lost and asks for directions. To "reward" the stranger for helping him, the rep gives his card saying thanks for helping me, here's a way I can help you save some money.
5) The deceitful way keggs cold calls prospects on the pretence of carrying out the worthless survey just to then get an opportunity to (not) sell uw services.
etc etc.0 -
:rotfl: Seriously, HOW MUCH LONGER can Quentin ignore the question?? Incredible.
PS According to the figures in UWs accounts each distributor earns approx £400 per year on average. Of course there will be people who earn waaaayyyy more, people who earn just that and (probably the vast majority of) people who earn nowt. It's clear that the majority see it as a way of reducing their G&E bill, I suppose, and don't see it as a life-changer. That's the way in most walks of life, I suppose. My father's favourite theory is if you gathered all the money in the world together and shared it out equally amongst the population....within 6-12 months the money would be largely back to where it originated from.Call me Carmine....
