This one's become quite interesting for me personally-
I'm a customer of UW (I rent and the landlord chose UW as the utility provider).
If I've paid more for my leccy than I would've done with my host supplier, does this mean that I can contact UW to get a rebate? I'd never considered doing this until I read the latter part of this thread.
(In accordance with Martin's request for this thread- I work for BG, but I don't post here in any form of "offical" or "representative" capacity).0 -

Don't get your hopes up because of the mystery "discount" the uw rep claims he has been given under the worthless guarantee. (Though has chosen only to tell us about it, and not his colleagues at the uw reps forum who have been discussing how worthless the guarantee seems to be)
The uw guarantee is just a sales tool, not a proper guarantee.
They cover themselves from the headlines of the guarantee with the small print.
The guarantee doesn't cover any on line discount tariffs, nor any discount you would have been entitled to from your local supplier. It also excludes the monthly membership fee.
If you read throughthe recent pages, you'll see that on the uw reps forum,a rep lost a customer because his gas was cheaper from BG. The rep asked UW HO why the "guarantee" didn't mean the customer would get his gas cheaper than BG (which is in its headline), and the HO cop out to their own rep was:Thanks for your email.
The Triple Value Guarantee (TVG) still applies.
However, it only applies when compared with a like for like direct debit tariff and does not allow for any duel fuel discounts, non standard or internet tariffs.
If compared with a like for like tariff the Guarantee applies over a period of a year. It is possible at any given point within that year that the companies covered by the TVG may be cheaper. We monitor our prices against their prices to ensure that over the course of a year the customer would pay less with us than with those companies.
I hope this clarifies how the TVG operates and should be interpreted or explained.
Check and see if you can get out of the arrangement via your landlord (who is almost certainly lining his pockets by "helping" you be a customer of the UW) and get your energy cheaper elsewhere.0 -
It does seem a bit strange to me that 2 people on this board have around 20,000 posts between them. Not really thought about it before but I guess my suspiscions are correct. I'm not going to post here - it's totally pointless as is this MSE board. You can't argue / discuss with professional complainers. You will no doubt complain you are not. Whether you do or not is really not the point. 20,000 posts between 2 people seems an awful lost of postinf for no remuneration is not something I think I can believe. What sane person would post that many times here (or anywhere else for that matter) for nowt.
Incidentally, Quentin. If you haven't been to the networker site recently there is now an extra security level installed. However if you are a pro complainer then it is unlikely to stop you. You'll find a way I am sure.
For my part I am just a normal person who has saved money with the UW and am happy to tell other people about it and (yes) get paid for the privilege.0 -

Apart from demonstrating that you didn't go to any maths lessons whilst gaining your psychology degree, (how did you manage to work out anyone's iq?), just what is the relevance of this to the many salient unanswered questions regarding the UW and its worthless guarantee?
Your director says it's just a sales tool, and was designed purely to help you sign up more customers.

In the sales training videos that's exactly how we see it being used!
(ie no explanation of the small print, so the gullible is left with the impression that they are "guaranteed" to save money)
Fast forward to 5 mins 25 seconds to see the salesman using the sales tool.

No I haven't understood!
Neither, I wager, has anyone else on this board.
Perhaps a fellow UW distributor can explain - or even Carmine - if UW give customers a discount/rebate/credit to honour their TVG.
How much time does it take to explain the TVG to your prospective customers? Thanks for the name check (even if it was preceded with 'or even') but how would I know?
I'm neither distributor nor customer...
Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Keggs insists that in his role as a uw rep, his only pleasure is in helping people, and never doing any deceitful selling!
Over on the uw reps forum he is gathering ideas on how to sign up a charity at a presentation he is going to make to them. The idea is that if the charity signs up, they will make some money out of getting their supporters switching to the uw, and getting some commission each month from their bills.
Well, if you really want to help charities, why not suggest that they get their members to use a switching site, go to the cheapest supplier (getting cashback for the switch) and donate some of their savings direct to the charity! That way the charity will get the money, and it won't just be another way of filling the UW reps pockets!0 -

Hi Perelandra
As per the response to the TVG that Quentin has helpfully quoted....Thanks for your email.

It is very clear to me, at least, that the words explain the process that is used by UW and actually states that the prices are monitored to ensure that the customer would pay less with "us" than with those companies i.e. the incumbent provider.
This is an explicit guarantee from UW, not a "worthless sales tool" as some would suggest, nay, state with great authority.
If it were found that this were not the case, then I am confident that UW would honour their guarantee.

If you insist on "quoting" people on other forums, would you please desist from inventing additional information to enable you to have a go at them. There is NO mention of a charity being involved. I don't expect you to apologise for this deceitfulness, but I do live in hope.

Yes there is - though the abbreviation CFR is used. (Charity Fund Raiser)
(UW reps know what CFR stands for, and its a bit rich of you to try and brand me a liar because I converted this to "charity" for the benefit of those of us not brainwashed into using all the UWs "secret" abbrreviations!)0
