Last time I posted that statement, it was quoted out of context by a UW rep who conveniently missed out the part about very high UW prices for gas and electricity. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Hi Cardew
Personally I have never heard of a product that is sold by 'Network marketing' that is good value and UW are certainly no exception! With 26,000 UW distributors all out to make a buck, that is not surprising.
Can I educate you a little then. Did you ever buy an Usborne book or Dorling Kindersly book for yourself or your chiildren?
If you haven't just visit a local WH Smith bookshop and you will see a lot of them. In fact both publishing houses are very well known. If you do know these books what you may be surprised to know is that Usborne Books at Home is the Network Marketing arm of Usborne Publishers. DK used to have DK Family Learning - again a network marketing company. The latter was disbanded after DK itself was taken over in the late 1990s. I know I used to be in it.
I also believe that Sony also has a network marketing arm. The DIrect Selling Association is full of well known big companies who just happen to be either completely or partly run using network marketing. UW chose the former. It could have gone down the franchise route but didbn't I'm glad to say.
A highly regarded and well known bllionaire businessman (whose name escapes me for the moment) was once asked what he would do if he lost everything. His reply: join a network marketing company.
So you see Cardew that despite your attempts at trying to discredit UW you still have a lot more to learn not just about UW but about our multi billion pound industry.
If you were prepared to find out more appropriate facts rather than accepting information fed on this forum by someone whose antipathy is just a deliberate attempt to try and destroy people, then I would more highly regard your opinion. Please don't take offence at this. It isn't meant to offend you. It is intended simply to try to get you to understand that 280,000 customers and growing think you are just plain wrong.
Nigewick quite rightly pointed out to you that you might not feel UW gives any of its customers 'good value' to use your own words (although this contradicts your now well published remark about the cashback card) but 280,000 others appear to disagree with you.
Best wishes
Steve

Thanks seems like a good deal.It says no minimum contract.Does that apply to both the line rental and broadband service ?
What im worried about is if the braodband speeds are slow on my exchange that i find myself tied into an 12 or 18 month contract.
The info on the utility warehouse website is sketchy.0 -
I'm with the Post office for telephone and broadband
£24.95 a month, free evening and weekend calls - Weekends include free calls to mobiles
Up to 8meg broadband with no download limits and I'm currently getting...
I dont need anytime calls as I'm hardly here through the day and I'm not in an LLU area.
The mobile calls at weekends are far more use to me than free calls to 0845 or 0870
So although it is more expensive, its better value (to me) than UWMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Hi Nostromo
Line rental doesn't have a 12 or 18 month contract, The broadband does have some restrictions.
These are the words in the small print..An early termination fee of £50 will be applied if your BroadCall or broadband internet service is terminated for any reason within the first 12 months from the date we originally make this service available to you, or within 12 months of the date that we transfer your connection onto our “LLU-based” service if later.
Also....Free fixed routers, wireless routers and USB adaptors provided by us remain our property at all times and must be returned to us at your expense in the event you decide to terminate this service in addition to any early termination fees which may be payable.
And, as with LLU services in general, the ability to transfer from one to another is still not acceptable from a consumer perspective. Hopefully things will get "smarter" eventually and it will be possible to have relatively seamless transfers between providers. I live in hope.

That's it, isn't it? It's horses for courses. It's just that some can't seem to get it in their bonces that what suits one person won't suit another person. I have actually looked at Post Office as an alternative but the user reviews really put me off - especially with a 12 month min. contract on the BB. Plus, for me, their daytime call charges are BT-like (i.e. ridiculous) and wouldn't be good value (again, for me). Plus no 24/7 calls package ASAICS.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Honestly dont understand all those bad reviews, Being with the post office has been like a breath of fresh air after standing in the cowshed of Tiscali!
Had a problem with the router, had a new one in under 48 hours, always get through to a UK call centre when I call (havent had the need to call very often) Speed is good considering where I live and my bill very rarely goes much over £27 a month when I add on the few chargable calls I make. Which I think is very reasonable considering the amount of free calls made.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

I'm surprised that you are not more interested in speedtest results posted by actual UW customers before you commit!
Since posting here eleven days ago, only one new to the forum UW user has posted their speedtest result.
Perhaps you should be more concerned about that? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
