I agree in principle about awareness etc. and have no problem with Q. posting the links. (I am disappointed that he probably obtains some of them by being a "member" of a UW distributor support website and doesn't come clean). I do tire of the frequency of the links and the necessity to add them to most of Q.'s posts, whether relevant or not. Where appropriate, I have commented on the relevance and age of the links and tried to correct some of the assumptions.
The assertion that these are "approved" sales techniques is incorrect. I hope you will accept, even if Q. doesn't, that these are produced by people who are independent distributors for the "benefit" of their teams, and are not produced by UW for the training and support of reps. There are UW produced videos and training aids, but these have not been used by Q. I would be more than happy to provide links to the UW training videos, but then I would be breaking the MSE rules by "advertising". As you can imagine, this is a fairly uneven playing field.

Mike,
I am sorry but that really doesn't wash!
You rather sound like the MP's caught with their noses in the trough and pleading "it is within the rules".
If they are not 'approved' then why doesn't UW stop them?
'Withdraw the Whip' from those who advocate such underhand and deceitful selling methods. i.e. take action against these salesmen.
Big Al's presentation to the massed ranks of UW reps was a disgrace! Was that not approved?
Most of us applaud the Telegraph for publishing the list of MP's expenses. If Quentin has obtained his videos by subterfuge, then full marks for his initiative. However many of them are on YouTube.
We don't condemn the Watchdog/Rogue Trader type programmes that reveal malpractice; so why should we condemn Quentin for doing the same?
Or do you consider that the videos do not reveal malpractice? and in which case why should we not see them?0 -
Or do you consider that the videos do not reveal malpractice?
No they don't. We'll have to agree to disagree.

Please elaborate

Agreeing to disagree cannot be considered reached over this.
The specific areas of the videos show various degrees of malpractice, all have been mentioned, none defended - except this new (hard to swallow) suggestion that the videos are actually all the work of maverick reps.0 -

Given your input in this thread, that statement comes as no surprise!
However if that is the case, why have you got so upset that they are posted on this thread?
The whole point is that prospective customers should be able to see how UW salesmen operate.0 -
Big Al's presentation to the massed ranks of UW reps was a disgrace!

uw reps are urged to watch this video again and againThis is an outstanding video and essential viewing (again and again) for anyone wishing to stop working hard and start working effectively!
The introduction says it all:"Ready to go out talking with some prospects", said Big Al, before opening the controversial idea that we should all be manipulating the minds of other people for fun and profit.
A Billy Graham type rally designed to get the reps "manipulating the minds" of prospects, and you ask to be told why it's seen as a disgrace?Big Al went on to discuss the concept that certain word sequences 'open doors' and demand the instant attention of others and that by using these word sequences, we can 'take control' of the minds of our prospects, whilst paving the way for a rejection free presentation.
I suppose the hyped up reps who felt privileged to buy the tickets do find it hard to understand what is wrong. Most folk aren't prepared to abuse friendships the way they are!

I completely agree with your last point. I am not upset that they have been posted on this site. I am upset at the underhanded way that your friends has abused his membership of a networking site in order to attack the Utility Warehouse and its distributors. And it is he that accuses people here of deceit.
As for your dislike of UW distributors way of working, you may not like it but the 280,000 odd members of the club and growing daily don't appear to have a problem do they? None have complained that they had their arms twisted up their backs. And this comes despite what your 'friend' keeps trying to imply.
Some may well find that they won't benefit. But that's a totally different issue. As we have constantly said the club isn't for everyone but for the most part you won't really know that until you try it out.
As far as the videos are concerned there are 2 ways to look at this.
1. They could have been kept within the network (secret) or
2. Published on the 'net'.
Either way, UW and its distributors could never win. They are damned if they don't publish and damned if they do. Par for the course I suppose.
Having thought about it, on balance publishing on Youtube shows that we have nothing to hide. People either like them or not. They are free to choose. You don't like them but that's your choice. Just as it is the choice of the 280,000 club members (who all know they pay a membership fee); they have chosen to join the UW club. Oddly enough the number of customers compared to distributor / customers is outnumbered around 10:1 (from my memory).
The bottom line Cardew is that it is all a matter of choice and your pontificating and arguing doesn't alter that fact. That choice applies to all equally. You may not feel UW offers value for money etc but 280,000 (including customers of mine who have been with the company for many, many years) do feel that UW offers them something better than the competitors.
It's hard I know for you to accept that (and that isn't meant to be sarcastic) but I'm afraid you will have to. Don't beat yourself up about it.
Network (Referral) Marketing is here to stay and is getting more and more professional which is the way it should be. It's a job like any other and a better paid job at that.

Putting misleading sales presentations about the uw on youtube is just cynical manipulation of the net.
The ASA managed to stop the uw doing misleading advertising by its adjudications against them, but the ASA does not control youtube ads.

Just to clarify something. ALL materials produced by distributors have to be approved by the company. Mike's use of the word 'approved' may have been a bit unfortunate. In his defence, knowing who reads these posts the use of language is bound to be misintrepreted (either accidentally or deliberately).
The company produces its own materials and distributors are allowed to do the same. But if they do then permission for their use will have to be obtained. THis will no doubt apply to any training videos as well as marketing info such as adverts. I'm assuming permission was granted to publish on youtube.
So if they can be seen by the public they have been approved in all likelihood. So there is NO malpractice.
The videos themselves are training videos to help new people get started and oldies to improve their skills. Anyone who starts their own business needs training of some sort.
Network Marketing is now a professional business model and training should be perceived the same way. This is no different from any professional training by any business you care to mention.

Dear Cardew
Just for your information. I have answered your posts. I have completely ignored those of your friend. I am happy to converse with you as you are reasonable in your dialogue even if we happen to disagree vehemently. Provided you remain calm and not make vitrioic attacks on people here then I am happy to continue with this dialogue. As such I will not answer any comment that your friend posts here.
One day, hopefully you will take it upon yourself to educate yourself to the validity, efficay and ethical nature of network & referral marketing. Stating that you dislike the modus operandi of UW shows in reality that you have no clear understanding what network marketing is or more importantly does. I felt the same way once but I made it my duty to find out and educatre myself.
Best wishes
