Come on carmine what your line attenuation? Just log into you router and you will find the figures you need. Even if your exchange is next door to where you live you are very unlikely to see a 24mb connection.0

Unlike some on here (*cough* Quentin *cough* Anyone know even what gas supplier he is with? Why the secrecy, I wonder?) I'm an open book, jimexbox
. These details have already been posted by me on another thread;

After the very helpful reply posted by Penrhyn on there (which I've only just seen) I will be getting my local internet guru (actually he's my best mate's 18 year old son, lol) to come round and get my wiring sorted as it appears my line attentuation (whatever that might be) suggests I should be getting a much faster connection (even though I'm miles away from the exchange).
Call me Carmine....

If you have a newer BT master socket, nte5, you can take the faceplate off and plug your line directly into the test socket. This will bypass the rest of your BT wiring in your house, and will give you an accurate figure as to your line attenuation. It probably wont change a great deal.
If you get 4mb on ASDL, you will probably see a couple of mb increase if you switch to ASDL2+. You can change your figures now.;)0 -

The wife and me don't use them much but our kids often use our allowance up ringing their mate's mobiles when they have run out so there's normally very little left to make landline calls. As I see it the very cheapest online leccy tariff would be £82/year cheaper (paper billing approx £64). Less than £7 a month and I would very probably spend that on calls during the day if I didn't have the full 24/7 calls deal. I've just seen the P.O Phone increases from 1/6/09 and posted a similar question in that thread; how much would a daytime chargeable call to my mate across the city cost if, for instance, I reached his 1571 service? I know UW charge 2.45p per minute peak rate but how much would the connection cost be? 8p? So 10.45p for a call like that? It would soon add up.
PS One thing all this has made me realise. When (if!) the kids ever fly the nest we are going to have so much spare cash we won't know what to do with it, lol...
"Fixed-price calls and calls with a duration of less than 3 seconds are subject to a minimum call charge of 3.45p; the duration of all other chargeable calls are rounded up to the nearest whole minute and are subject to a call set-up fee of 8p. The ex VAT cost of each call is then rounded up to the nearest whole penny.https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/home/Misc/tacs/UWDC_small_print.pdf

You are quoting what you get and what you pay for your UW services, are you not? If you only get 4mb, its slightly disingenuous to claim up to 24mb. Why not just put what you get?0 -
Alternatively, you may have use for the internet phone (£50 one off fee, £2 or £4 per month depending on whether you take 1 or 2 lines, and you would need an additional phone to make use of it).
An acquaintance of mind has the full kit and caboodle package with UW and they have one of these. They swear by it because they plug it into their broadband in their place in Spain and get inclusive 24/7 calls to the UK ,Spain, and other destinations.0 -

How would I know what speed I get when I haven't joined them yet? It's clearly ADSL2. Which costs more than ADSL that you are on. No? Here's the speed talktalk estimate I would get with them (and they know not of my currently horrendous extension wiring). This is on their ADSL up to 8mb service. To upgrade to the maximum my line could take would cost an extra £4 per month with them. It's already included in the UW package.
Your Landline and Broadband will go live on 04 May, 09 at speed up to 2.9MbpsCall me Carmine....
