12p total, then? Makes it even more financially viable to keep the leccy, then. Just 3 of those calls each day would cost £10.80 a month if I didn't opt in to the inclusive 24/7 package. I hope I have got that right...:o

An acquaintance of mind has the full kit and caboodle package with UW and they have one of these. They swear by it because they plug it into their broadband in their place in Spain and get inclusive 24/7 calls to the UK ,Spain, and other destinations.

Looks very interesting. I remember Cardew stating that one is included for free in his BT package but I'm not sure he could use it as part of his inclusive calling plan like you can with UW? I can't do a link as it would be to a UW distributor's site. We sold our 'interest' in Spain a few years ago when we got the dogs so not sure this would be ideal for us, lol.

An Internet Phone Line is just like a normal phone line in every way, except that it works through a broadband connection.

There's no engineer visit involved, no software to install, no extra hassle - just a little adaptor that you plug into your broadband router, and you're away!

It costs just £2 per month per line. You can have two extra lines if you like (you must decide when you sign up - we can not add an extra line later). Connection costs a one-off £50 whether you choose one line or two. This is much cheaper than a standard phone line from BT!

You can plug the adaptor into any broadband connection, anywhere in the world, and it works exactly as if you were at home - including the number (no international codes needed) and the cost of the calls (Home Phone Tariff and "Free Global Calls" apply as if you were in the UK)!

Calls are charged on our Home Phone tariff - and you benefit from our "Free Global Calls" in the usual way.

When I've had a chance to work out how much we spend for my wife's calls to her family in Croatia, I may end up getting one to send over to her sister if it works out cheaper :)

Would that be BT broadband talk?

    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25511

the evening and weekend package is at no extra cost, the talk anytime package is £5.82/month.

For the free one, i'd be put off by ...
If you haven't used your account for 90 days,
    please reorder it here.
as I'd probably forget about it until the most inconvenient time possible :o

The broadband talk package also appears to be tied to your bt home hub and broadband connection. There is a software download to enable calls via other internet connections but presumably this would mean you have to have a computer/laptop that's available and turned on all the time to receive calls (if you don't care about receiving calls then you'd only need it turned on when you want to make them :)). Not necessarily a problem for everyone, but not suitable for me.

With regard to BT's 'version' of the internet phone, the part I'm struggling to get my head around, decado23, is would the £5.82 for anytime broadband calls be in addition to the calls pacakge you were paying already for the BT anytime calls on the BT landline? It would appear that UW's version is able to use calls from the existing calls package that comes with the phone/BB (and depends on amount of services taken)? In other words, there is no extra charge for inclusive calls? I'm not explaining this at all well, tbh. :o

It's a bit quiet here today. I presume that Cardew and Quentin are doing some research for Carmine...........

I just realised! If I use my pre payment card to spend £100 per day on my favourite wines, single malts and beers at Sainsbugs, then I can have all my utilities for free.

    I pay £31 a month(including VAT) to BT for:

    line rental,

    all geographic calls free 24/7,

200 free texts a month, Sent from phone or PC

Wireless Broadband hub with 20gb monthly,

free McAfee comprehensive security package, - firewall, anti-virus etc

    call minder,

    caller display

    Free 0870/0845 telephone Nos

    5gb digital vault

a second(internet) phone line with a separate telephone number(calls to many countries abroad 1.25p/min and evening/weekend domestic calls free),

350 minutes a month free internet access on BT Openzone for a laptop(for all my family).

The ability to interrogate BT call minder from abroad.

    Freephone help line.

In addition I get the occasional discounts like reduced rental for 3 months etc.

If 20gb is insufficient I can get unlimited downloads plus unlimited wi-fi minutes for laptops in hot spots for an extra £4 monthly.

As long as my router(hub) is on(which it is 24/7) I can make and receive telephone calls on my second Telephone line(0560 No - Broadband talk).
In practice I mainly use this phone for international calls, and on the odd occasion when the main BT line is being used.
The downside of Broadband talk is that it costs others to ring that number - as 0560 nos are not included as part of inclusive packages. So I only use it for outgoing calls.

The big advantage for me of the BT package is the wireless - all my family have laptops - and the ability to use laptops in hotspots. Incidentally we all have Skype so we have free video calls between each other 24/7 from all over the world.

Although the package is up to 8mb, I only get about 3mb which is apparently average for UK . I have a place in the USA with blindingly fast cable internet, and frankly, for most purposes that I use the internet, it makes little difference.

There is also the facility to use BT fusion which is for cheap(I believe?) mobile calls - which I don't use and also BT vision for TV(I have Sky)
