I would like to read detailed figures of how many UW customers have used their card enough to match a cheaper alternative tariff from a different supplier.
Mine were posted and Carminestocky (although he is only a prospective customer) has shown his too. I doubt you'll get many other takers here due to Quentin and Cardew insisting that their choice is wrong no matter how well they use the pre payment card.

I found out this afternoon that my next door neighbour signed up a while ago with somebody else. He took the card and shops at Morrisons
And yes, I did put him straight.

    Hi jimexbox

    What I can say is....

    1. For your gas, UW guarantee their prices will always be cheaper than British Gas, wherever you live in the UK.

    2. For your electricity, UW guarantee their prices will always be cheaper than the prices charged by the regional electricity supplier for the area where you live.

    3. And for your complete peace of mind UW guarantee their prices will always remain competitive compared to the cheapest standard tariffs available from the "Big 6" suppliers

Sorry, but its becoming apparent the selective and judicious use of their 'terms & conditions'.

    Example.

I jimexbox could rightly claim to be the best footballer in the world. I could back this up in court as long as my terms and conditions ruled out every male/female between the ages of 9 to 75.

So jimexbox is the best footballer in the world : official.*

That quote as you show it is out of context.
I disagree. I was just pointing out that you only put a value on "wants" when it suits your own purpose and not somebody else's.

Well done you. Though even I don't generally do that much hoop-jumping. I notice you've counted 4 x the points value though. I thought that wasn't allowed.

Well, whether it's allowed or not it's still a much better offer than how you use your vouchers, mech :D Getting 1% off one of the more expensive supermarkets is not my idea of money saving nirvana.

The local shops I actually use are all in a similar area to the local large Tesco as confirmed with Google Earth. It helps that they're on the way to Tesco too, but I go up there often enough for the post office, bank/cash machine, bus+tram stops etc that I can usually combine journeys anyway. If I had to go further afield I'd try and stock up on whatever it was. I didn't think it would be worth the hassle either until I started doing it.

Like I said, as long as you are happy doing that, fine. You must be a very fast walker, though (not to mention bag-packer and checker-outer :D ).

No chips on shoulders here. It's just that you have narrowed down the households potentially able to benefit from the UW card to quite a small minority. Sainsburys only has about 15% market share.

What would 15% equate to in household numbers? 3-4 million? A figure not to be sneezed at if you are a young, fast growing utility supplier.
Additionally, the majority of households in this country now are 1 and 2 person households with relatively small grocery bills and close enough to an urban centre that a car is not neccessary.

Really? What would you call 'relatively small grocery bills' and where did the info come from? Necessary or not, I don't see any evidence of car numbers on our roads diminishing, in fact quite the opposite.
My car is SORN because I just didn't use it enough. (It's still on my drive, but I'm about to transfer ownership to my sister). The Twocars are just the shorthand I'm using for your household profile.

That's genuinely a nice gesture. Your sister must be very happy.
I could. I've hoarded the vouchers that are not close to expiry. I have sold till-spits I couldn't use on ebay before. The point is 1% is a minimum and I still manage to get more than 5% other ways without changing energy provider.

Like I have said, I'll take your 5% and raise you 20%+ and 5% off my UW bill by shopping for OUR shopping at Sainsburys. :D

I haven't noticed to be honest. I don't hang around the shopping forum anyway because I'm too lazy to sift through the high volumes of posts of no interest to me. (I only hang around on here because I've always had a bee in my bonnet about fossil fuel depletion).

    Crikey.
I'm just trying to see if there are real circumstances in which there are really no other ways for the Twocar household to save a similar amount off their shopping without using Utility Warehouse. It seems very likely that there are, even if my experience isn't of the right kind to figure out what they are likely to be. I don't tend to research things once I find out that they aren't helpful to me, so you're at an immediate advantage on this topic.

This is a surprising admission but very welcome. And I'm glad you have seen how disrespectful how you referred to us in your previous post was and amended your language accordingly. Kudos to you for that.

Getting a couple of credit cards a year between two earners shouldn't do more than move them from 'excellent' to 'good' unless they're already in trouble.

Okiedokie. That gets us to 6 months at a possible 5%. What about the other 6 months of the year?
There's that chip again. I traded money for time and freedom and space. I'm fine with that. A one person household has higher per-person costs than when I was cohabiting. I'm also fine with that.

You've missed your vocation, mech. With 'reasoning' like that, you could have been a Govt Minister by now. How anyone can call someone who has 2 cars such a derogatory term as you did in your previous post then twist that round into me having a chip on my shoulder deserves high political office. There are of course derogatory terms for people who live alone but I didn't use any of them in my reply to you. Why would I? I have no axe to grind and no reason to be resentful of your lifestyle.

As you wish. I would point out that a credit card can be used in more circumstances than the UW card. For example I could use it to pay my council tax.

 Shouldn't that sort of 'financial advice' come with a Govt. Wealth Warning?

Except you can only use one energy provider at a time. Just cancel the card after 15 months. Inconvenient, but still worth it for the 3 months of 5% cashback..

And then what? Last time I looked there were 12 months in the year.

True, but I simply couldn't make Sainsburys cheaper whatever I bought in the Tesco section, so I didn't think that would be hard to replicate. I do concede I could save more on the Sainsburys bill if I started in the Sainsburys section, but I'm not convinced I can halve the Sainsburys shop. Frankly I can't be bothered to start again. Already some of the substitutions are inferior products and yet it's more expensive. With the basket I started with I'm on a loser I think.
It could be interesting and informative

Like I said, on your tiny grocery bill there's virtually no scope for big savings no matter what you do, mech.

Interesting clip, so online and dual fuel prices are excluded. If recommended by UW to transfer gas and electric, you are effectively dual fuel. Which their amazing 'triple guarantee' price comparison specifically excludes. Slightly confusing, any rep care to elaborate.....

It is hard to compare the UW TVG with any of the other utility companies as they don't appear to have one, however they do all have T&C's.

PS Good luck in your football career. :D

Although a triple guarantee which excludes dual fuel, which millions use, and online tariffs which are becoming increasingly popular is a little disingenuous. With hand on your heart can you really defend this 'guarantee' without crossing your free fingers and toes?

As to other utility companies T&C's Im not aware that any have advertised a specific tarrif as being the cheapest, then excluded a raft of tariffs which were cheaper.

Google is a great source of info on the workings of uw.

Try googling martini presentation and see some interesting performances from the likes of the uw reps who come here.

How much did E.on's press release say they had reduced their rates by? How much has your actual tariff decreased by, jimexbox?

Everybody wants others to see them in the best possible light. Companies are no different, especially as they want customer share and to make a profit. I believe terms and conditions are used to narrow the field enough to allow an economic advantage over some of the competition.
