I realise that bill wouldl be high due to the cold weather/snow that we were experiencing at the time but certainly didn't expect it to be that much. Is there anything I can do or do I just have to pay it?
Contact the company and explain your problem. I would phone/e-mail and write, keeping a copy of what was said, date & time and written correspondence.

So, the price drops have been announced!

    7.5% on gas

A MASSIVE 0.1% on Electricity (but only on their standard tariff so I'm told)

(presumably this is so the salesman can give the gullibles the fact that they have put down the prices of electricity when other companies havent)

Source... https://www.energyhelpline.com/xhl/page_a.aspx?ref=fhl_priceincreases_1&p=1 (which I assume is an average over all three tariffs)

Your not starting to call UW customers 'guillable' to are you? Thats quite an interesting table, it seems that UW are one of only a few companies listed that haven't raised there prices in the last year or so.

You fail to mention that Utility Warehouse, according to the link you posted, is the only company to drop its electricity price at all this year so far. What do you call a non standard tariff? 7.5% is also the largest price drop this year for gas by any company from your link too.

I am not saying that Utility Warehouse is the cheapest but let's put things in perspective shall we?

Putting UW prices in perspective is what some of us have tried to do these past few years.

We will have to wait and see the exact detail after 01 April.

However I suspect, that for the vast majority of UK dual fuel customers, UW will be 25% to 30% more expensive than the cheapest tariffs.

    Would you agree?

I'm waiting patiently to see what reduction if any I'll get on my Equigas account. They last changed 12 months ago, I suspect it will be around 4%. Only any good for low low gas guzzlers.

Not at all, it shows that energyhelpline make mistakes.
No supplier has raised their prives int he last year or so.
Hydro, Southern, SWALEC & Atlantic are all SSE brands, but seemingly 2 moved exactly 12 months before the other 2?

Actually, all 4 moved in 2008.

Ok so its the only company to drop electricity prices, by 0.1% and only on one tariff? I'm sure that will keep everyone more than happy! ;)

As you say, lets put things in perspective shall we?

The average user in my area could save more than £300 (thats even including the extra £20 for paper billing) by switching from UW to OVO energy.

Ovo provide a monthly bill, on paper too if you want (£20 per year charge for the paper bill), no cancelation fees on their variable tariff, all that and you get 15% electricity from renewable resources.

I know you dont like including discounts in your comparisons, thats fine because Ovo dont have any discounts at all.

You're misreading the table, check the dates of the price rises from other companies.

The price reduction on electricity by UW this year means anyone spending £1000 with them will now only pay £999.

    Or for average users 3300kwh/pa
    EDF Online S@ver 6 £315.25
    UW £433.23
even adding on the cancellation fee of £25 EDF are still over 20% cheaper and they haven't reduced their prices.

But lets put things into perspective shall we.. Its still £1! :rotfl:;)

EDIT: In theory you would be right, however I would assume that anyone using £1000 wort of electricity would (or should) be on UW's higher user tariff which obviously DIDNT get the drop in prices which means they would still be spending the £1000

Not that it really matters as anyone using £1000 worth of electricity would be better off with just about ANY company other than UW (even all the ones that havent put their electric prices down)
