Sick of being stitched up by Tesco

Agree with the O.P. Fairly recent thing, i.e. about last two years. You have to check with their offers and sizes. Are they scrimping on their training of staff?0

I remember when I was a kid (going back maybe about 20 years) that you used to be able to buy milk and bread right next to the entrance! Now, its usually in the corner furtherest away from the door.....the reason? So you have to walk past all their other stuff in the hopes that something will catch your eye. With my asda as big as it is....what used to take 5 minutes, now takes 20 minimum (and thats with no queue at checkout). Their "special offers" are usually at the end of the aisle why? Because pretty much everyone will go past the end of the aisle even if they don't go down the aisle.
And if you really need proof that they are deliberately trying to "mis-represent"......get to know the products you regularly buy very well.....if there is a price hike, I guarantee you there will be a "special" offer on within a few weeks. The reason? So they can fool the consumer into thinking its a great bargain.
We had it with fruit juice not long ago....79p. Price went up to 99p and oh would you look at that......2 weeks later its on offer....2 for £1.50.
Oh, they layout the stores to maximise basket spend and impulse purchasing - there's no doubt about that - one reason grocery retailers don't like you using online shopping as much as they'd make out they do.
But (in my opinion) this isn't deceiving or misleading - it's in store marketing ('in store theatre' it's often referred to). (and practical too - if there is a major BOGOF offer, you need to give it plenty of space to hold the stock)
Pricing is a tricky area - and one I'm best not saying too much on, but I do know that it's not always as black & white as it seems (not that the customer should care about that). Again, with 40,000 products, each with usually several prices depending on location / store type - changes are often made in bulk to hit a margin / price point without thought put into the history of a price / the future for that product eg planned promotions. No excuses really, but I stand by my point - few retailers intentionally seek out to mislead on prices.
Lets not forget, retail is one of the most competitive markets we have in the UK, and shoppers (as we all here know!) are very price sensitive, so prices change a lot more often that in the past as retailers try to out-do each other.0 -
I'm so fed up with this sort of scam I put all my offers on the checkout first to make them easier to check.0

You'd better readthe FAQ :
I'm a journalist, I posted asking people to get in touch, but my post's gone. Why? TV companies, newspapers and researchers are not allowed to post on the forum asking for case studies or for people to help them with their surveys. If we allowed this the forum would be flooded with requests.
If you're looking for case studies please read the media enquiries section of the Contact Us Page for the email address relevant to you and a member of the MSE Team will get back to you when they can.
We rarely allow forum users to post surveys on the forum. If you have one you feel is genuinely relevant to the site's MoneySaving ethos then email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com to ask. Do not post it on the forum.

In last 3-4 months our local Tesco seems to have a policy of labelling offers on shelves but filling those shelves with non-offer products (because they haven't got stock) which includes things like:
1/ offering HP Sauce for £1 and stacking the shelf with large HP bottles that are not applicable
2/ Offering Fray Bentos Pies for £1 and filling shelf with FB pies that are not applicable (different filling)
3/ Offering 'Stagg' chilli for £1.39 and filling shelf with 'Stag' chilli not applicable to offer
10000000/ Lost the will to post any more
This is at least careless and at most deliberate deceit
Even being fully aware of this practice, every single time i shop there I am duped into over paying for some items including today being charged £2 for £1 offer oranges - you dont need to be very good at maths to figure out how this might affect 3-4000 people that shopped there today x every day
I'm posting a complaint to Tesco about this poor practice which may only affect my local Tesco - also telling them in advance that I will be going in there next sunday with a camera to evidence this deceit to give them chance to do something about it (write to the manager of the store - or whatever it is they need to do)
