mountainofdebt wrote:If you have similar size tins then firstly weigh an empty one.
Then weigh 1 5p.
Weigh your full tin
Then from the weight of the full tin take away the weight of the empty tin (so what is left must be 5ps) and then divide the answer by the weight of the 1 5p.
Multiply the whole number by 5p and you have a rough idea of how much you've got in the tin.
If you can do all that you should have no problem with your maths gcse:rotfl:0 -
postingalwaysposting wrote:thanks what a wit... i tryed to weigh one 5p but it didnt move my kitchen scales at all... but an empty tin weighs 100g and my tin weighs 6kg 620g.... dont even ask me to do the calculations... thats why i am going back to college :rotfl:
6620-100=6520 (grams)
6520 divided by 327 (£5 worth) =20.2
20.2x 5 = 101.2.
So should have just over £100.
Edit:
Personally I'd cash it in, better being paid off a debt (and not costing you interest) than sitting in a jar.0 -

wow thanks head in the sand for working those out :rotfl: i didnt think ity would be taht much  i have decided to pay it into my car savings... purely because my debt isnt incurring intreset and it will be paid off by the end of the 0% term :T i think i am going to leave it there for a few more months though as i cant be bothered this week to count it all0 -
I put 1s, 2s and 5s into a tin with a easy open lid. I hate the things. The smallest coins are too small and fiddly and I hardly ever use 2ps to pay for anything unless I have a lot of them in my purse, which isn't often because I always empty them into my tin! I don't always wait until it's full before emptying it, just have a look at the contents and guess if there's enough in there to fill any money bags. If there is, I bag it up and take it down to the building society. Full, my tin, small as it is, can have anywhere between £12-15 in it, depending on what coins are there. If I spot a penny on the ground I pick it up and chuck it in my tin. I've never raided it, because I hate having lots of tiny coins in my purse!
Having read through this, I am tempted to get a tin to save larger coins in - it would have to be one that I had to take a tin opener to as I would be tempted to lift the lid on one containing £1 or £2 coins! Does anyone know where I might buy such a tin? If I find one this weekend, I think I might just do it!0 -
Ebay - you can get either the 'normal' sized tins or the bigger ones. They are a reasonable price as well - just a couple of pounds, although I think some people picked theirs up at a pound shop. I have got one of the large tins for my £2 collection so that I cannot raid it!
