PHEW ! what a relief to find this thread. Last Friday I received a notice from Parking Eye. I parked in St. Peter's Retail park Mansfield, I was visiting the area. I did not realise it was a Pay and Display and was parked there for ( according to them ) 1 hour and 48 minutes.Retail parks in my home town are free !!
So technically ,.I suppose by not realising I must pay and therefore not paying ,i am at fault but all your responses seems to say to ignore it.
I am the registered keeper and I was driving.
Same advice ? Bin it ?
thanks.0 -

I do hope you didn't only read this thread. The parking board it sits on has thousands of private parking charge threads, including many about Parking Eye.
Like all the other posters on this board, you have a fake PCN. Ignore it.
When dealing with "tickets" from private parking companies (PPCs) our advice is to ignore them as long as the registered keeper is you or a relative. The letters to ignore are easy when they arrive at the address of someone who knows it's all hogwash and not a real parking ticket at all.
The whole scam of fake PCNs relies firstly on people's ignorance of the fact that a random private company can't fine anyone, and secondly on their natural fear of parking tickets and the escalating costs/bailiff scenario. So PPCs copy the look of a real parking ticket and - hey presto! - the cash rolls in from victims who know no better.
This is different. This is not a penalty at all. It's rubbish.
Read the stickies!! Tick off the threatening letters here.
Watchdog clip with expert Solicitor's opinion here.
Barrister's opinion here.
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I received a fine for parking at St Peters Retail Park, Mansfield at the end of July. My initial reaction was exactly the same as many on here. I panicked, I was worried that I had done something stupid and I was tempted to pay it.
I am quite a sensible person so I decided to search for more information on this particular car park and the internet search provided me with a diverse selection of information.
I also called Mansfield Council who put me in touch with a local solicitor (their file specifically said that the council could give out his details to anyone experiencing problems). This is the same solicitor who successfully represented a client against the parking company.
There are links, but as a new poster I cannot paste them into this reply. Just search for 'Mansfield Chad - Judge says Excel parking fines illegal and Victoria Hetherington-Jakeman. They are probably already on this forum somewhere.
His advice to me was to respond to the initial "fine document" by way of a letter stating that having taken legal advice I believe their charges to be unlawful and I do not wish to hear from them again.
He told me to expect the standard letter reply about my appeal being unsuccessful and he then advised me to respond again saying that they clearly misunderstood my original letter as it was not a letter of appeal and again stating their charges are unlawful.
He told me that I was to expect the usual order of correspondence from Parking Eye, but to not do anything after the initial correspondence.
If however, they did pursue me further and summonsed to court, I was to get in touch with him for representation.
This is the advice from the solicitor who previously took the company to court and won. Back then it was Excel, it is now Parking Eye, but the ruling remains and has set a precedence. Basically the charges are far too high, based on the initial parking fee and the companies methods of intimidation to frighten people are wrong.
Today I received my FINAL NOTICE letter, which was logged and filed away with the other letters and correspondence. I await the next instalment soon.0 -
Thanks to all posters for advice on this issue. I received a parking charge notice from Parking Eye today. I overstayed in a local Aldi carpark by 16 mins. My first reaction was to pay but since reading this thread I will now ignore this outrageous scam attempt to gain my hard-earned cash. I find their tactics dispicable but am still a little concerned about receiving further threatening letters from them.
Thanks again for all the good advice0 -
Treat the "threatening letters" as you would any other junk mail. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Ooooh what a heinous crime (not!). :rotfl:
Don't be concerned, just play snap with the letters on the thread I already linked in my post just above here. I have ignored 2 fake PCNs (both for overstaying when shopping in Supermarkets).
Nothing happened except letters in the first case, over a period of 4 months or so, which I ignored completely and laughed at. In the second case I never got any letters which was a little disappointing as I didn't cost the PPC or any random debt collector any postage - but there you go!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
