i hope you are secretly having a party in your head celebrating your losses each week.

I wouldnt be feeling embarrassed about loosing, i would be more embarrassed for their sakes..Imagine turning up to a weight loss class week in week out and losing half a pound here or there or gaining because they are too stupid to realise that loosing weight requires some effort.
We have a lady in our class who has been there for a few weeks longer than me and she has only lost 5lbs. Now this is a very large lady and given her size i would have thought the pounds would be melting off her. Each week she comes in saying well i had a curry this weekend and polished off a box of chocs or had several glasses of wine and then complains that she has only lost half a pound..

    The mind boggles...:undecided

It is amazing. Someone who used to work with DH has been doing SW for YEARS and has never lost any real amount.
But of course, eating KFC and going out drinking all the time doesn't really lend itself to weight loss. I almost didn't do SW because of her, but then I realized it was probably her own fault and not the plan.
    Started comping 24/08/2012.

Lots of people at my group are like this too and they ask me how I consistantly lose. I often feel embarassed to have lost again!

i managed to loose weight while at a festival and they went mad because they didn't understand it. they went on and on about how could i have lost drinking booze and takeaways all weekend because they never loose when they do that. they didn't like my answer of i did a perfect low syn SW week before i went so i had syns to play with anyway, took super noodles, mugshots and bacon and eggs to set me up properly in the mornings so i wasn't hungry and eating takeaway all day and if i did, i chose wisely and avoided the burgers and chips like the plague by eating some amazing stir fried noodles one stall had so it was still something that could be free food/HE. i also stuck to spirits and diet mixers, not the beer and cider they all drank. they went in a right huff with me, it was like i was class swot!

tbh, i thinks its more that they all do want to loose the weight but are still in denial that they don't have to make any changes to their lifestyle that might be a bit hard or need willpower. the first few SW weeks are very hard changing from takeaway to fresh home cooked food, giving up canteens and shop bought food at lunch for SW sandwiches and salads and coming home and actually cooking something even when you are shattered not just re-heating a ready meal or phoning someone up. throw in limiting all the "treats" we get used to like a glass of wine or choccy bar a night in front of the tv and being aware of what you eat/drink when you do go out, SW isn't a walk in the park. this stuffs easy when you have the motivation and drive to do it and make all the changes you know deep down you need to make but if you don't take it 100% seriously then it won't work.
  • Never mind, gettingthere, you'll loose that gain and more next week if I know you.

Evilsquid - hubby theorises very much the same. By attending a slimming group and paying for it they are therefore dieting. You do have to admit to want to change I think.

WI tonight, lovely temp consultant- breath of fresh air, kicked my mood into touch with a whooping -4lb gone. Which meant I got my 1 and 1/2 stone award, and Slimmer of the Week... two weeks I think.. just two more weeks and I'll be Club Ten (I hope!)
Happy bunny... can go nosh on my Hi-fi bar happily now :)

Hello, hope you don't mind but I new here and would like to join your thread. I'm rejoining SW shortly having done it a couple of years back but drifted off the straight and narrow and never could get my bum back into gear however going to have another go - and will be joining a group after Easter hols although I'm not a fan of the happy clappy brigade and have found groups a bit cringeworthy but I need that weekly weigh-in so will suck it up :D!

I was thinking about store cupboard essentials and was hoping you lovely folk would be able to recommend what your SW essentials would be?

    Thanks :)
  • Welcome aboard :)
    My store cupboard staples are as follows;
    baked beans
    tinned toms
    red kidney beans
    tuna
    dried peas, lentils, barley
also, always have eggs, muller light yogs, low low spread cheese
    dried pasta
    mug shots

Total loss = 5 stone 12.5 lbs. / But now GAINED 1 STONE 1.5 LBS!!

    46 weeks!

packets of dried pasta and chopped tomatoes/passata/tomato puree so you can always knock up a pasta and sauce at short notice. rice is always useful. noodles for quick stir frys. mugshots and super noodles for quick snacks. HEB cereal bars and cans of soup are always useful and the cartons of fresh soup that are low syn.

other than that make sure you always have stock cubes in and herbs for flavouring to make your food interesting so you don't get bored!

That's what's holding me back from starting SW again. We had a little core of people like that who'd been coming for years and the consultant allowed them to carry on being negative and telling us all the rubbish they'd eaten in the week etc. They really should not give them "airtime" because it puts others off and then they just come and get weighed and go home again.

It's like they think if they just attend group they'll lose weight. Same with the recipe books and magazines - most of them have every book published but they never open them!:rotfl:

And you'll probably hear them trot out the tired line - I've tried every diet going and nothing works! I hear it so often and it really bugs me.
