  • Eh... school shopping is a drain on the soul, nevermind the purse.

Sarah - great news well done.
Steff - sounds like you have your hands full. Instead of rewarding him with calories, try with online game funds as I suspect thats where he is hiding. Give each chocolate bar/crisp packet a value - or work it on syns.
For every syn over he owes you - for every syn under you "owe" him.
For every sneaked one he owes you double.
If he is just using chat forums etc - facebook and the like..convert them into hours. don't be afraid to hide the router so when he sneaks syned food you can turn it off.
Put the suggestion to him see what he makes of it. Remember he wants to lose the weight -or perhaps he has decided it's too much like hard work at his age. I know it was for me.
Fluff what an excellent idea... I wonder if my consultant would let me do that... :D;):D

Cheese burger quiche on the menu this week anyone else tried it?

    Thanks everyone :)
  • We have a woman local who makes n sells slimming world currys soups etc, I understand people are busy me n hubby work full time etc so can see the pull but the not knowing entirely whats in there and the 7 main meals for £20 pricetag puts me off.

Our local consultants don't say against or for them but do insist u add fresh veg or salad to make sure your getting the superfree....

I enjoy cooking, so its not for me n we have a local pub and the chef herself is a member so she happily cooks s/w friendly with a call first, so swings n roundabouts I guess .

    Congratulations Sarah.

Shellie, he sits playing on his ps3 and any games/credit he uses online he pays for himself from his saturday job money. He doesnt play against others so no point in switching off the router and as for fb i dont know the last time he used it, his laptop is primarily for school work. But i do appreciate what you are saying. Since yesterdays chat he has seemed much more positive, He looked in the EE 100 days food optimising book and chose what he wanted to eat today and inbetween meals has been off out on his scooter. At min is sitting in garden teasing the 3 dogs, so seems much happier in himself. Throughout everything he has said he doesnt want to come off plan and its not too hard for him to stick to but occassionally he just eats out of greed not need - his words not mine so he is fully aware of what he is doing, just a case of keep chipping away each week see where we go on this weight loss journey.

I suppose like us all he's feeling much better about himself after a good loss. You sound like a lovely, suportive mum stef.:T

Did my meal plan/food shop so plenty of f&v in now. I ended up just snacking on some raspberries and a slice of cooked ham (just stuffed in my mouth on the hoof:o) for lunch. Supper tonight is pork steaks with peppers, mushrooms and onions and SW roasties and broccoli on the side. Sauce does have orange juice, splash of sherry, soy and cornflour in but I can afford it and will be sharing with DH!

Karen, I'm like you and enjoy cooking and fortunately I have the time and/or HM ready meals for when I'm pushed. I can see a place for restaurants that do SW though, wish there was one near me!

  • Just found this online re too much fruit and a possible link to depression:
    (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/health/diet-fitness/article3523150.ece) (article behind the paywall)

    "Too much fruit
Fructose is a sugar found naturally in fruit. This, coupled with the fact that it does not raise blood sugar (glucose) levels directly, means that fructose has typically enjoyed a healthy reputation. But fruit juices, apples, grapes, pears and citrus fruits all contain high levels of fructose, which is implicated in “metabolic syndrome”, a condition characterised by fat accumulation in and around the abdomen, an unhealthy pattern of blood fats and raised blood pressure. Another common feature of metabolic syndrome is heightened inflammation — which has been implicated in depression. Metabolic syndrome can also lead to insulin resistance, in which the ability of insulin to drive sugar into the body’s cells is impaired. Research has linked insulin resistance with a depressed mood, too.
There’s another reason to avoid fructose. Not everyone absorbs it efficiently from the gut. Research has shown that fructose malabsorption is associated with lower body levels of tryptophan (the building block of serotonin, one of the chief neurotransmitters responsible for us having a happy disposition) and higher depression scores.
Apples and grapes are particularly high in fructose and should be avoided in people who think they might be sensitive to the effects of fructose. Berries are a safer bet, being relatively low in fructose as well as high in nutritional value. I would also advise against drinking fruit juice, as it is usually rich in fructose. The main risk of fructose overload comes from foodstuffs sweetened with “high- fructose corn syrup” (also called “glucose-fructose syrup”), such as sugary soft drinks, sweetened yoghurts, sweet, baked goods, breakfast cereals and cereal bars.
Avoiding such foods in the diet is likely to reap a range of health and brain-related dividends. It might also help our mood specifically to put some emphasis on tryptophan-rich foods such as chicken, turkey, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and nuts such as cashew, almond and pistachio."
