I dont post that regularly but I could do with some pretty serious help from you if you could. Hubby and I have been doing sw together, he is type 2 diabetic and has lost nearly 2 stone BUT his diabetes has gone completely out of control as a result. He thinks it is down to the amount of fruit he is eating.
Prior to sw he was on metformin and that was working, for those that understand he has had a HB1C test (I think thats what it is called) which shows that his blood levels are ok, but that is a 3 month test. He and his diabetic nurse were that concerned about his symptoms he agreed to self fund a testing kit and so far he has taken 4 tests which show his blood sugar is too high. The timescale of the change in symptoms marries our time at sw.
He is now talking of quitting, as he is OK with the food optimising at mealtimes but feels the need to snack inbetween. He has been using fruit for this, but we cannot think of a healthy alternative. Crispbreads will only do 1 snack as his HEB, can anyone please suggest any snack ideas that are low syn (less than 2) and low sugar??? Preferably not ones that need to be prepared (we have done sw scotch eggs but they are too time consuming to do regularly).
Thank you all so much.0 -
Hi HP_Sauce as a newbie i have no idea on red and green as they only explained extra easy to us. Everyone on here seems really knowledgeable so i am sure someone will know.
Day 4 of the plan today and my leader called today to see how i was doing which i thought was nice as on WW no one ever did that. I cooked a roast today and didn't eat a single bite of chicken skin and had dry roast potatoes. Veg wise i cooked peas, carrots, broccoli and butternut squash. I syned my stuffing (3) gravy (1.5) and yorkshire pud (2) and everyone else had apple pie and custard for pud and i had strawberries and FF yogurt.
I am feeling very smug if i am honest but amazed by the amount i am eating - its just hard to believe i can eat this and lose weight!
Hi Schumie
That's really nice that your leader called you. Mine has emailed me a couple of times and she is also on Facebook there is also a facebook group for my group. I too did WW in the past and never got anything like that.
You should be feeling smug lol, it sounds like you are doing really well. I'm also fairly new so I still find it hard to believe I am eating all this food, but it does work!
I've got my WI in tomorrow evening. I am really nervous as I'm mid cycle at the moment which always means a gain for me when I have tried to lose weight in the past. Also it's probably not helped by the rubbish I have eaten this weekend. I haven't got completely mad or anything, not like I used to but still feeling really guilty about what I have eatenMy SIL comes to meetings with me and I am really glad she does as I think if I went on my own I would probably bottle it tomorrow night

Hi, I don't really know anything about diabetes but there is a lady in my group who is diabetic and I remember her saying that she doesn't eat fruit but does eat lots of veg. Does he like carrots? Could he snack on carrot sticks. Also FF yogurts like the muller ones, I don't know how much sugar they have in them though
What about scan bran cake? I know it's not to everyone's taste but someone said you can eat a whole cake over a day as a HExB?Slimming World Target Achieved 13/09/12!0 -
I've put on a pound this week. totally expected and I'm surprised it wasn't more- we had a family crisis last weekend then i started my new job wednesday. i dread to think how many syns i scoffed my way through last weekend but when it all kicked off it involved a whole big bar of lindt choccy and a whole pack of party rings to myself, closely followed by a TGI fridays because i had to get sis in law out of the house and when put on the spot i couldn't think of anything more productive to do than go out for a meal.
also really struggling with long days, i find it hard getting up and eating so early in the morning so I've been grabbing what ever i can find then I'm ravenous by the time i get to work so I've been going and getting brown toast smothered in butter when i get there. I've bought a proper lunch box so i can take nice salads and pasta stuff in for lunch so I'm going to do that this week but last weeks were all shop boughtthen by the time 6pm comes and I'm on the train home with tea another hour a half away those graze box snacks have become a lifesaver.
Evening All...welcome to any new comers.
Couple of questions if you lovely people don't mind.
Is there a limit to the number of eggs I should be eating? I am getting through 6 a week, is that OK?
I mostly do EE, but I've been looking at doing Green days as I don't really eat any meat except for the odd bit of bacon. In my book it says "choose once or twice from HExA sections and twice from extended HExB section"
I'm not sure if I am being a bit thick but I am confused by the wording. I don't get "choose once or twice from HExA"....so can I have 2 lots of cheese if I want? Then I can have 2 HExB, so anything from the normal list on EE and then meat, or nuts or more cheese? Just seems like I would be eating more? Or does it just feel like that because I'm not eating meat and the extra Hex are to replace that?
I've not had a good week this weekso back to basics for me. Just reading through everything again and want to make sure I am getting it right.
i vaguely remember being told in group anything over 14 eggs a week starts to bring very unpleasant side effects.
with G and R you do get 2 HEA and 2 HEB a day (if you want them of course, they are there but you don't have to have them if you don't feel like it). you are exactly right with what you can have, you can have 2 of anything from the normal list of A choices then 2 of anything from the normal and extended b choices so on a green day thats meat, fish, poultry, bread, cereal, nuts/seeds/dried fruit and more cheese. you can technically have 4 HE worth of cheese if you want to.
it does seem like you can eat more but the way they differ from EE is the "extra" HEA and HEB are supposed to be used so that you can still have your meat and potato for dinner. on EE its free so you don't need the HEB for a bit of meat. i get better losses on them because i'm naturally limiting a portion of something and when you have a HEB steak, putting a humongous potato next to it or portion of pasta always looks a bit odd (and greedy) to me so i find i naturally shrink those to be in proportion to the HEB serving without noticing i'm limiting myself. i find i use EE as an excuse to overindulge because all i hear in the back of my head is "ITS FREE!!!!!!"I dont post that regularly but I could do with some pretty serious help from you if you could. i snack on cold prepared meats like ham and chicken strips. they are usually free or very low syn. can you get mugshots or super noodles? they are also free or very low syn.
can he swop his HEB crispbreads to a HEB portion of nuts/seeds? he might find that they go a bit further and can spread the portion out a bit more.0 -

14 Eggs is madness lol, I wouldn't eat that many, sounds like my 6 is ok then.
Thanks for confirming that for me. I think green will be better for me so I will give that a try this week...mmm extra cheese :T
Sorry to hear about your crisis, hope all is sorted now.Slimming World Target Achieved 13/09/12!0 -
I eat a lot of eggs; probably at least a dozen a week - they are usually hard boiled and I have them with salads or I make 6 at a time into quiche which lasts a day. So far I haven't had any unpleasant side effects, though some people at my class find that they get ahem bunged up or bloated witht them.Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000

Yes, I have just discovered SW quiche, I am going to start taking it for lunch. How long do you think it will keep in the fridge for?Slimming World Target Achieved 13/09/12!0

I can also get through a huge quantity of eggs a week. If I'm having frittata for breakfast that's 2 eggs a time. I sometimes have a tuna salad for lunch and also add a hard boiled egg to it. On Saturdays I have a tuna salad for breakfast (don't ask!) with a couple of hard boiled eggs and then sometimes I'll make a SW quiche for tea which has eggs. Fortunately I've never had any side effects with it.Mediterranean Mum

Managed to walk for 30 mins this morning (5 mins more than yesterday) and with an extra small loop added in. My back and shoulders are very stiff and I probably need to go to the chiropractor to loosen everything up.
I'm not going to walk every day but it will be Sun, Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri with Tues and Sat off.
Food wasn't too bad yesterday (could have been better but could have been a whole lot worse too!).
I have LO chicken from the weekend and going to make a chicken risotto this evening. I'm also going to make a pot of soup of some kind to keep me going for a few days.
The other thing I'm going to do today is go through my larder and my big freezer and make a list of everything I have and then I'm going to try and put together some recipes to use up what's there.
Got a quiet day today work-wise so hopefully I can get that done between emails and phone calls.Mediterranean Mum
