Hi,, just started SW this week and I think I'm doing pretty well but I cannot believe I will lose weight eating what I have.

    Yesterday
Breakfast Mushroom Omelette with 30g Red Leicester being one of my healthy options
    Snack Apple
Lunch Chicken breast with lemon and herb seasoning(using nandos rub 1syn), 2 slices of wholemeal hovis as my other healthy option with olive spread 1syn and a mullerlight strawb and cranberry
Dinner Chilli using extra lean steak mince and loads of veg i.e tomatoes, onions, mushrooms etc... and rice, and a few sweet potato wedges with spices. I had a large slice of melon pudding. I caved at about 11 and had a bite of a kit kat chunky :o I don't crave massives amounts of chocolate, usually a little bit is enough to stop the craving....any suggestions on something I can do to stop this? Or should I just give in to temptation and have the chocolate? I know it can be counted as syns but I want to limit these as much as possible.

    So far today
    Breakfast Mush Omelette
    Snack Banana
Lunch homemade double bacon cheeseburger adding 30g red cheese and 1 bread roll as my healthy options for the day. I had a tiny amount of ketchup on my burger, I made tzatziki with cucumber, low fat yoghurt and garlic, the yoghurt is 1 syn I think, I only used 2 tbsp and it's 2% fat? And I made the SW chips which btw were absolutely delicious.
Planning on having a mullerlight for a snack in a couple of hours with some fruit.

Like I said at the opening of my post I think I'm following it correctly but it just seems an awful lot of food, I want to make sure when I turn up next week for my weigh in and I've put on half a stone! :(

First, use your Syns. They are there to be used. The goal isn't to not use them, but to make sure you can stick with the plan and be happy long term. Most people find that upping Syn use within the limits makes no difference to their weight loss. They recommend 5-10 a day although technically, you are allowed up to 15. You don't have to use them for sweets, you can spread them out over the day for things like sauces.

You won't put on half a stone. :) You're supposed to never be hungry on SW. It's all about choosing the right foods and when you do that, you can eat more than you're used to. I was shocked too at the amount you can eat, since we're trained to think diet = starving yourself. So relax and enjoy! :j

The only thing I can't get my head around is being allowed to eat an unlimited amount of carbs....this worries me! :o

The thing about carbs is, they are filling. You are allowed to eat as much as you like of them, but it's built in portion control because someone can only eat so much of them before they're full.

Flat Eric have you tried deciding on your syns in a morning - eg, 6 syns for a Hifi Deluxe Peanut bar, with some grapes , or snack on some sw chips. Allow for 5 syns on a alcoholic drink or choccy bar. Put all these in a tub and only have whats in the tub?

When I first joined SW, I was told I was allowed 15 syns a day so I spent 6 on wine, 4 on treatsize chocolate buttons and 5 syns for spread/sauces. As I got closer to target, the consultant told me to stick to 10 syns or less and now that seems to be the norm i.e. a minimum of 5, maximum of 10 leaving you with buffer of 5 if you miscount.

syns are my downfall. I can often have fab meals but spoil the day by having too many syns and on many an occasion I will have syns just because I've messed up that day (why not make the most of it and get back on track the next day) - except I don't I repeat....

Does anyone see their syns as a weekly total so for example, if you have 20 one day, it doesn't matter, that just means you have 50 left for the rest of the week? I'm thinking of approaching my syns in this way.

I'm also thinking of keeping a proper diary of everything I eat whether syn free or otherwise! also exercise/walking diary and mood diary to see if this helps me. Also means I can plan in advance (a big must for me if I'm to do well with the plan)

I am thinking of writing out menu ideas on index cards and shuffling - instant meal plan :) but having fluorescent stars for my syns - mix them up and pick one or two out ! should make meal planning/syn planning easier :)

FlatEric - i have a weekly total for my syns. if i have slightly over one day and slightly under the next it will balance out over the week as just sticking to rules anyway. id rather know i'm ok for a whole week if i have more one day than end up e.g. having to grab a sandwich whilst I'm out and having "oh god todays been blown may as well carry on now!" creeping in. i know there are flexible syns but i found myself having a few over nearly every day and claiming it was a "flexible syn day" when it was just me not planning or sticking to rules.

i keep a food diary too, it helps me realise just what I've eaten, its too easy to just forget little snacks every now and again.
