My daughter who is doing Alevel PE has just informed that when you do intense workouts that you're not used to, your body and your muscle has to replace lost fluids, and this can cause fluid retention in your muscles and body........I wish she had told me that when I started exercising! She also says that in time my body should adapt to it. :(
  • Lalamb have you taken your measurements? You've been doing a huge amount of exercise and I'm sure that you are losing inches. So many people on here are obsessed with the numbers but then when they think about it they're fitting into clothes that should theoretically mean that they are a lesser weight, however because they've been exercising madly they've gained muscle and muscle is heavier than fat. It doesn't matter that you haven't been lifting weights, just by doing the amount of exercise that you've been doing you're building your muscles.

  • It's been 34 degrees celsius here today - so damned hot and I suddenly realised that I'm not drinking enough.

Most of us only drink when we're thirsty but weight loss is greatly helped by drinking water and especially if you're feeling bloated. We need to all make a conscious effort to drink more water to keep our bodies hydrated.

I wish I had taken measurements but unfortunately I didn't. I have definitely lost inches, everyone is noticing it. In my bum, belly, thighs and arms.

My mum who is 60 this year got herself a personal trainer about 2 years ago, she lost a huge amount of weight and has maintained it for the last year. Anyway, her trainer told her do not weigh yourself, what the scales say is not important, it's all about inch loss. She doesn't eat carbs but eats natural fats, like fat on bacon, and steaks, real butter and olive oils.

I've already made a conscious decision to stop weighing myself every week. From the beginning of June I'm going to weigh only on the first of the month.

I'm not yet exercising the way I should be but I know that I'm eating more healthily than I've eaten for many years and I just need to stop getting obsessed about the numbers. I know I don't lose at any speed because of years and years of yoyo dieting but I get so disheartened when I don't see a loss that I then sabotage it.

    And breathe........
I feel a bit better now, hubby and daughter have given me a good talking to. I would usually give up because I am not the most patient of people but I am determined to see this through to the end!

    Thanks guys :)

I was exactly the same last week, I put 1lb on and it was my first gain, I was dreadful for 3 days, but stuck with it even though I wanted things I shouldn't - I resisted, anyway I came back with a 2lb loss.
I couldn't explain my gain other than a few biscuits I wouldn't normally eat but as you say with the chocolate that shouldn't have given 1lb, I had been walking quite a bit more over the Bank Holiday so maybe there is something in the 'muscle weighing heavier than fat'.
Its just so frustrating at weigh in time, hang in there and glad you're getting the support at home. :)
SW start date 20/02/12 - lost so far 2st 2.5lb

Our consultant is always saying about the fluid that the body produces when people have been doing more exercise than usual, I'm sure theres something in it.

I put on 1lb at yesterday's weigh in. We had a different consultant and she saw from my book that I have been struggling for months with getting back into my target range. She asked if I had considered highering my target. I said I had considered it but not by 7lb. She said that the 7lb was discretional and I could think about altering it by just a few pounds. She also said that we do get obsessed with the numbers on the scales and not what we look like. She said my BMI was within the healthy range for my height so I am seriously thinking it over. Trouble is, and I know this is so stupid but i was SO proud when I could say that I had lost 3 stone (I know this is ridiculous!)

Sorry to be a pain and moan.

On a good note there is an offer on Activia fat free yoghurt in Tesco, 12 for £2.25.

Thanks for that info, it definitely could be the cause for my gain......but it just sounds like an excuse rather than a reason lol.....silly I know!

I think BMI is more important that the actual number on the scale. You should be proud of your acheivement.

Thanks for the info on the offer at Tesco

And on that note I forgot to say that Morrisons have blueberries big punnet style for £2.....I was so angry when I got home I forgot to post it earlier. Definitely a good offer......did someone say you can freeze blueberries? Do they go the same as shop bought frozen or do they taste the same as fresh? I only ask because I tried frozen raspberries and I really disliked them.

Hi, I joined SW last Monday and just come across this thread. Hope you don't mind me joining in. I lost about a stone and a half on WW a couple of years ago and have pretty much maintained since as I do a fair bit of exercise. My eating habits were getting a bit out of control and I want to try and lose another stone and a half but I just couldn't get on with their new plan. I found it too restrictive and too much effort to work out points.

Anyway, I thought that I would give SW a go after reading such positive things. I found the first week really easy and really enjoyed cooking recipes out of the magazines and eating all this healthy food. I was really disappointed to find at my first weigh in on Monday that I had put on half a lb :( I was really embarrassed at my first week not going well but I can honestly say I stuck to the plan. Staying for a group definitely helped though as everyone was so lovely and supportive. I showed my consultant my food diary and she said it was fine so I am not sure what is going on :(

Just trying to stay positive, I've stuck to the plan this week and really hoping for a loss on Monday. One thing I did notice is that I am REALLY bloated. ToM isn't due so I assume it's the change in diet? I see other people have mentioned being bloated on SW so I wonder if this effected my weigh in? I really hope this week is a better week because this plan seems brilliant, I don't feel deprived at all and I have so much more energy!

Just off to read back over all the old posts...up to page 18 so far :rotfl:
