Sorry to hear your news CH27, comfort eating won't make the news less bad or your memories less painful. All it will do is make you feel bad about yourself afterwards. Look at this as the one thing you can control and focus on it, 1 day at a time.

Not tried the curry you linked, but have tried the tikka masala one - to be honest i didn't like them much - i think the rogan josh in one of the most recent magazines is the nicest SW curry (apart from mushy pea curry of course!)
I don't like the idea of putting yog in a curry - i can have it as hot as it comes - i like vindaloo!!!
I don't do that many curries at home apart from mushy pea curry as DH doesn't like them much - he says that they are too runny & he would much prefer a jacket & cheese!

Slack Alice, here is a jalfrezi I make I posted it a few weeks ago for someone who asked. I also make a madras curry much hotter basically the same ingredients but the onions are fried with the spices and you add lots more chillis, hot chilli powder and nutmeg, cloves, and cardamon, skip the yoghurt and add peppers if you wish.Thanks for that,will have a look at the ingredients and see if I can tweak it to suit my tastes.
The jalfrezi is really simple and quick to make
This would serve 3 or 4 people
You will need
Green chillis finely chopped( the more you add the hotter it will be)
Turmeric - about 1 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds - I use approx 2 - 3 teaspoons
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
Either tinned tomatoes or you can do your own from fresh tomatoes, removing the skin.
Chicken breast
Garam Masala
Fat free yoghurt - I only use a little, I don't like it too tangy
Peppers
Onions
So fry your green chillis, cumin seeds and garlic in fry light briskly watching the garlic doesnt burn
I add a little bit of garam masala here too
Then add your tomatoes, let it cook on a highish heat, add your turmeric and stir. Then add your chicken breast(no need to brown your chicken breast before hand) add your yoghurt, a bit of water about a cup. Then let it cook for approx 30 mins. I always taste it, and if there isn't enough spice I add a little more cumin powder and maybe some curry powder.
Then in a seperate pan fry your peppers and onions in fry light, add your garam masala and fry for approx 2 -3 mins then you can add it to the curry, cook for a further 5-10 mins.
The way I used to make curry was frying onion and peppers first but this is the way it should be cooked, adding it last to leave it with a bit of a crunch and not soggy.
I've been using this recipe for years, it is authentic, and very similar to what you would get from an Indian restaurant......the house smells lovely when I cook it!0 -
In regards to currys - in the groups they sell books, one of which is a SW Currys book, with sides recipes in their as well. The books are fairly reasonably priced, so if you can make it to one of the classes it's worth having a look - there's a voucher in one of the papers this weekend for free membership if you've not joined yet (see a couple pages back, sorry can't remember who posted the note!). I think it's daily mirror paper.Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!

it is really nice, but something I've learned over the years of cooking a curry is switching it off for an hour to let it thicken, they can sometimes be watery otherwise. If it is too thick when you go to reheat it you can always add a little water to loosen it up. I must admit I prefer the madras to the jalfrezi at the minute. I like the spiciness in madras, something the jalfrezi lacks. When you do a madras you use the seeds from the green chillis, in the jalfrezi you don't. My family prefer jalfrezi that's why I can never have it too hot.0 -

invisibleyousee I'm not actually doing slimming world, just looking for a recipe to do for my family because my mum has recently started. But I will let her know about the books if she hasn't already seen or heard about them!0
