Just popped in to say green day is going amazingly! I've just had some homemade veg soup. I got 4 packs classic soup mix veg from Tesco last night, they were reduced to(whoopsied) 10p a packet :j should've been £1.50 I think. I ended up having 2 bowls of it :o it was so nice. I just want to double check that chicken stock cubes are ok to have? I added a bit of chilli powder to it. Frozen the rest into portion sized amounts in the freezer. Will definitely be having lots of green days!

I also want to mention how surprised I am at how much money we are saving on SW. We went shopping last night and spend just over £200, but that got us a lot, my trolley was overflowing. We got loads of diced chicken breast - 15 packs to be precise :o sirloin steaks, a finest piece of beef, 3 whole chickens, 4 packs of steak mince, 4 packs of sausages(1syn per sausage and really tasty), a huge pork loin. Loads of fruit, veg, condiments, spices etc etc. We also had a few cheeky packs of chocolate but not for me I have to add! And, we had toiletries. It's really surprised me how much we are spending.

Does everyone else feel the same?

    Lalamb, stock cubes are free!

I love it when the bulk of my shopping trolley is filled with fruit and veg - I feel so virtuous. My fruit and veg bill is usually about a third of my total shopping bill. The rest is chicken, vegetarian products, dairy and toiletries. I buy very few ready-made products now although always have some stuff in the freezer for the kids as I'm not always around when they come in. Bakery items are usually just wholemeal rolls, wholemeal bread and pitta bread (DS will only eat pitta!). I love the way my whole family are eating a more healthier diet these days.

  • Soya mince has finally made it's way to Israel!!!! I finally found a veggie mince alternative which is new from Tivol. It's 5% fat and I'd love if someone could put it through the syn calculator for me and let me know how much I should be synning it.

    400g bag - figures for 100g
    calories - 149
    protein - 18g
    carbs - 8g
    fibre - 6g
    fat - 5g
    cholesterol - 0

    thanks

I know, my husband kept commenting how it's the most sensible shop we've ever done! We usually stop on the ready meal aisle and pick up a couple of bits, but I laughed as we were walking down the aisle and didn't pick up a thing  We did eat pretty healthily before, but not on this scale, we've always been big chicken eater, always made my own curries, spag bol, chilli etc but it's the planning that's going into the weeks meals which is making a big difference I think.

I am definitely more reluctant to buy rubbish now. I was making a SW full english breakfast last week, my younger daughter asked if she could have fried bread, I tried to persuade her not to have it, I said do you realise all that oil is going into your stomach, she didn't seem to care. She is so thin anyway but that wasn't my issue it was just the fact that she was having oil. It's veg oil that I had bought before SW, will be glad when it's finished because I don't think I will need to buy it again.

You can actually do a SW version of the fried bread using egg to dip it and then Frylight to fry it. It actually tastes way better than the oil stuff!!!

I'm so disappointed - I've had a tub of quark in the fridge since my last trip to Asda (we only have a Ts locally) and decided that I fancied a creamy pasta dish today for lunch.

I softened onions, garlic & herbs and added the quark and some salt but it was horrible! It had a really grainy texture - I'm not sure if I over heated the quark maybe? Anyway, more than half of the pasta is in the bin cos I just couldn't bear to eat it... I know it's a waste but I'd rather eat something I was going to enjoy. I've had an alpen light bar (1/2 HEB) and some fruit instead.

According to synsonline it's 1 syn per 100g if you buy it frozen but free if you buy it dried.
