It is going to be nigh on impossible to prevent spoilers - I'm quite lucky because my boxes always come late otherwise I'm sure I'd be accidentally spoiling it for everyone with my big mouth!purplebutterfly wrote: »As for the swapping rule - I got pulled up about it on the Grabbit board by one of the moderators.
If anyone knows how to set up a group on Facebook that can be linked to this thread, please go ahead and do it.
I can just about manage to log myself in to FB and click on thecomping links I am sent ,so there's no way I am going to try to set up a group.purplebutterfly wrote: »Thanks for the Jolie Box profile info. I realised that I couldn't access my profile because I had suspended my account after paying a one-off payment for the birthday box. I reactivated the account, checked my profile and it was all completely filled in! So now I look like an idiot to whoever opens my email. Typical!
Although I agree with the majority of your comments on French cosmetics I am a total sucker for the odd few and I would be distraught if my favourite nail polish manufacturer went under. If you haven't heard of them, just google image Nfu.Oh - they are pricey (I get trade prices) but so so so so so beautiful. (I am a total nail geek so forgive me if this does not interest you) I would very much like for Nfu.Oh or Nubar to appear in a box, but I know they won't
Have any of you ever been to any of the beauty trade shows? A lot of the stuff I heard about in September is starting to appear in my beauty boxes, which is quite exciting :-) xxx0 -
I'm not saying that there's anything WRONG with French cosmetics - I just find it a little old-fashioned trying to sell items based on their French-ness. If that makes sense?
I didn't think France was still considered the epitome of the beauty industry?
I did Google Nfu.Oh and their metallic polishes look lovely. I tend to stick to OPI - I buy from ebay US because they sell for around £3 a bottle. If you buy quite a few in one go and get the combined shipping option, it works out really cheap.
I don't like Nails Inc. I've had lots of theirs that came free with magazines and I find that they just don't stick on my nails at all.Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -

I suppose perhaps that "French" marketing appeals to those who have always liked the idea of YSL and Dior etc products but not their price tag, I'm not sure - I agree that it is an unusual selling point.
I get cheap OPI (again, trade discount) but I prefer Nubar for everyday polishes. My Mum (had to get her in this post somewhere eh) works in a warehouse and rips boxes open with her nails, rather than a stanley knife (bad, bad, naughty Mum - JEWELS NOT TOOLS!!!!!!!!!!) so has always had a hard time keeping polish on her fingers for more than 1 day. I can give her a Nubar manicure (using CND stickey base coat and CND shiney top coat) and it will happily stay for well over a week. Excellent value for money! They do loads of multichromatic colours which change in the light making them very versatile and, in the spirit of MSE, gives you several looks for the price of one. (For reference see Nubar Purple Beach, Nubar Indigo Illusion, Nubar Moonshadow, Nubar Peacock Feathers)
The person you buy from on eBay is likely to be one that I used to buy from before I got trade discounts. Enchanted beauty spot? They also stock Nubar. There was another called something like R32 although that's a Golf model so I'm not sure it's that... I used to spend so much money on polish but that habit has been replaced now that I'm not manicuring anymore. Obviously it makes far more sense to do them in bulk, I totally agree ;-)
Nails inc don't do it for me. Nice colours but rubbish sticking power and cost more than a bottle of OPI or Nubar. OPI are a good choice but if every you want to branch out then I can't recommend Nubar highly enough. I've got several clients hooked just don't go paying £9 on Amazon. What am I saying, you're on MSE so you won't!xxx0 -
I'll keep those nail polishes in mind - although at the moment my nails are in such a poor state, I'm not wearing any polish at all.
As for YSL, well I can't live without their Faux Cils mascara. I found it 8 years ago and I haven't discovered anything else that even comes close in terms of volume.
Lancome Hynose is probably the second best for me - Dior's mascaras just don't live up to their hype I'm afraid.
I don't like waterproof formulations generally because I find that they are more sticky and tend to clump but I bought Clarins Double Fix (which is a clear waterproof mascara that you can use on top of your normal mascara and you can also use it to seal eyeliner) and I love it.
I am a dreadful make-up junkie. I'd love a beauty box that promised nothing but eyeshadows, eyeliners, blushers etc. THAT would be my must-have box.Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -

willowisp - On their FB page someone was asking this, looks like there has been a delay, they are apparently sending them early this week (although I would argue the early week is nearly over!). They will be emailing us when dispatched, I don't have the email yet.0
