Get Rid of Search Assistant/Toolbars?

Well until I installed AVG yesterday and turned system restore off, I have had continual problems with Search Assistant and browser changes which have kept coming back, also internet connection sometimes not working, Mozilla & Thunderbird suddenly closing (though that could be a browser issue), Norman antivirus not running fully on a few occasions and yesterday turned off altogether, difficulty altering settings and everything being just generally difficult to do, also running very slowly. Today, touch wood!, there have been no messages from the spy watchers (Spybot, Giant and Spysweeper) about any changes, so I'm HOPING that those particular problems have been sorted! Thanks for your interest.
