Get Rid of Search Assistant/Toolbars?

Search assistant keeps altering things. - Spybot keeps popping up saying a change has occurred. At first I denied the changes but have ended up allowing and it's still popping up. I have AdAware, Spybot and Spywareblaster and my antivirus doesn't pick it up.

What can I do about it? Spybot is popping up every few seconds. ???

You could also try going into spybots startup manager and see if anything is starting that shouldn't - (tools then system startup in advanced mode)

Spybot is still coming up with Search Assistant having made changes and I'm now choosing to deny it again (having tried accepting which didn't stop it). Since I logged on about 10 mins. ago it has popped up about every minute (or more).

The Cwshredder didn't seem to do anything and I don't fancy messing with those other settings.

Any ideas as it's persistent..... ???

Down load Hijack this and run a scan.

Click on Hijackthis freeware download.

When you have got your hijackthis log, copy it & post it on the link below..  You'll need to register first.  The guys will tell you what to do and what to get rid of.  I can't recommend them highly enough, very easy, clear instructions and very patient.

I'm not sure I want to copy info like that from my computer onto the internet - can anyone tell me if it is safe?

Did you download Spyware Guard? Did it conflict with your existing stuff?

It looks like Kazaa might be the problem as my son uses it all the time. I'll try to get him to use an alternative as Owen recommends.

Yes, I installed all the security measures he told me to.  No conflict up to now, it's running like we just got it! (fingers crossed that isn't tempting fate)

I tried system restore but it's back with a vengeance, there's now a double tool bar at the bottom of the screen. >:(

Fran - can you feel sympathetic feelings oozing through your monitor? I am so sick of these browser hijack, pop-up, privacy invading spyware thingies. One completely wiped out my favourites and replaced them with gambling, porno, tacky shop links!

I have looked at ausielle's hijack log thread and have taken all the security steps the extremely helpful Owen suggested - already had most of them but have installed SpyGuard and have downloaded the new Ad-Aware as notified elsewhere on this forum.

I also found the following link which explains the bits in the HighJack This log - it might pinpoint the stuff that shouldn't be there and then you can ask questions on the DAL site without posting your whole log. Might help!
