Kazaa has gone already . I've already got rid of quite a few baddies, but whatever has taken over IE and the search assistant both keep coming back. It seems to try to copy things too, I've deleted one of the 2 Internet Explorers and P2P. The addresses that the search assistant keeps trying to change from and to are really long.Torgwen..........

I have read of this type of problem on the DAL site and it is caused by the virus morphing if it is nor removed in a specific way. Everytime you think you have removed it it changes name and runs and hides. It then pops its head up just when you think it is clear. I still think it will be easier to change your name and log onto one of these site that help with removal. At least you would be anonymous and have the problem solved.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Theres one thing I've noticed with virusses and thata that they don't seem to infest on their own, they always seem to invite friends along for a party. Persevere, you'll get there in the end.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I'm a little worried about how long this has taken to solve.
It might be best to do a Windows In-Place Reinstallation / Repair. Does anyone else think this would solve the problem?

Strike_Eagle,
Looking at their instructions on how to do that, it says:
" * Do not use a repair or in-place upgrade to resolve a problem with third-party programs, files or registry entries.
* Do not use a repair or in-place upgrade if you suspect a problem with a third-party device, and the latest device drivers are currently installed for the device."
Also I'm not sure about this:-
" 2. Insert the Windows XP CD in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive." as I haven't got an XP disc, only a floppy which I used to reinstall Windows a few months after I got the computer.Would this be the same thing?Torgwen.....................

Have you re-posted your new HiJack This Log on DAL?
Looking at previous threads there it sometimes takes more than one pass to clean it properly. Seems like Owen is the man and he should be raring to go 'cos he's just got back from his hols!!! ;D0 -
I posted on SpywareInfo and managed to get Search Assitant removed with help from there, the only things cropping up now are "Brilliant Digital" and another thing which sounds like the "Giant" spyware remover trying to put stuff on itself! ::) Also can't get printer working or uninstall it to start again. Also running slow.Torgwen..........
