Did you say the printer was for the Ipad?
If you had, and they still sold it to you, then you can certainly return it, irrespective of whether you've unpacked it or not.
I didn't actually say that to them and they would have been within their rights to refuse my return but as it happens they didn't refuse it and so I will buy the replacement from Tesco Online.

As an airprinter I bought this one Cheap genuine carts and works very well:)
Apple is fine when you've got used to it, and is in fact quite unrestrictive when using the correct apps;)
I bought that one, only cost £25 through a HotdealsUK dealIt also lets you scan direct to the ipad (using the HP app). Great bit of kit.
Ultimately, you bought a printer without bothering to check if it would work with your iPad and now you've got buyers remorse. I'd ask them very, very nicely since they don't have to swap it now it's all opened0
