Ipad Woes!

Hello. I just bought the new 64GB ipad. It's my first Apple product and it's really very good. However I went out and bought myself a printer from Tesco's only to discover that I'm unable to print either directly or through my network because the printer's not an "Airprinter"! What's all that about? Am I supposed to go out & buy a specific printer just so I can do something that my Windows laptop and desktop both do effortlessly? The printer's an Epson and I've downloaded the Epson iprint app but this effectively means I'm using two browsers to enable printing. This is madness. I'll say this, either the ipad or the printer is being returned before the weekend!

To print directly to a printer using your iPad, it needs to be AirPrint compatible. To print to a non-compatible printer, it needs to be hooked up to a computer. According to Wiki, all Epson printers from Autumn 2011 are AirPrint compatible. What model is the printer?0

but your not using a windows pc now are you. Best you return the printer for an apple compatable one.
Welcome to the world of apple.0 -
What printer have you got?0

It's an Epson SX435W and it's not on the list of compatible printers found here -

Will Tesco allow me to return the printer after it's been unboxed and set-up? I'd pay the extra to Tesco to get a printer that is compatible, such as this one -

or this one -

And thanks for the help. I knew there were reasons I hadn't jumped on the Apple bandwagon before now but I didn't see this one coming.0 -
Not sure they'll allow a return or not, only Tesco can answer that:)
As an airprinter I bought this one Cheap genuine carts and works very well:)
Apple is fine when you've got used to it, and is in fact quite unrestrictive when using the correct apps;)0 -

And to think people used to choose Apple over Microsoft because they thought Microsoft were trying to control everything.0

That's what I thought. Damn Apple. I can't see any technica reason why I can't print directly from Safari or whatever via my network. This is very frustrating and I think Apple should make this clearer before the customer parts with his/her money. I feel ripped off to be honest.0 -
Can you connect the printer direct into the router? We had an old hp printer which was connected that way, it wasnt airprint, but the hp app picked it up on the ipad. Weve since bought an airprint model, for sheer convience ,tesco hp 3050 £34, as we now all use ipads in the house.0
