First night went brilliant, not a peep out her, I was up at 6am and let her out for the toilet then went back to bed. She's been a walk and I let her off lead when no other dogs were around, she has excellent recall, wanders a wee bit in front then when you call or name or make the 'clk clk' kinda noise you make at dogs she comes back to your side.
She can play fetch, wouldn't do it yesterday but today she has with her tennis ball so think it's a case of getting her used to us. She has been barking at the ferrets next door though.
Frankie has been down to peek at her but as soon as she moved he runs back upstairs. Tiny steps forward though.0 -
Aww brilliant

I wish Tyson knew what 'recall' was! I can let him off in enclosed fields or when he is with his best mate. Other than that he just wanders off in front and gradually picks up pace until there is no catching him! You can call him as much as you like, and he will stop, look at you, do the doggy equivalent of a middle finger and then pelt off!
Frankie probably just needs to test the water a little bit to check he wont get eaten. At least he is peeking, so it shows he is interested. He hasn't done a Kevin and just gone and shut himself upstairs in his room!0 -
Even tongight Frankie been down a bit further, I have had a little drink tonight and thouht I would try see how they are, Frankie came down further and they had a little staring contest, no hissing !! Huge improvement.
Partner took Kia out earlier and some man was shouting at him ( I live in an area where people judge you down to the team you support
Martin had one teams jersey on (the team that got beaten incidentally) ) and Kia was barking at the man for raising his voice and shouting but she wasn't being aggressive or trying to bite which is good, she is showing protection but still not being aggresive.
Still loving her to bits she is fabulous.0 -

I am still shocked at how good she was so soon, was scared I was making a mistake so soon but thought I would try whilst no other dogs around, a rare moment. anytime I said her name she came back by my side.
I really am so lucky with her. when Frankie comes round, it will all be perfect. We have taken babygate away as Kia now knows upstairs is out of bounds and Frankie is coming and going to have a nosy at his own pace, felt the gate was holding him back a bit.0 -
Glad she's settled in well
Just remember that her behaviour may be somewhat inhibited down to the nerves of moving and your house not quite being her home yet - behaviours inside and outside the house may change as she settles in, so don't get too lax about the recall, her willingness to stay downstairs, etc. Once she realises she's there to stay, she may well start testing her boundaries to see what she can get away with. 0 -
Yeah definately best remembering, whenever she goes out into the hall we call her back.
Going to take her a nice long walk today up the fields surrounding the golf course, been lucky so far as weather is great, won't be long til I am out walking in the rain and wind though - it is Scotland afterall !!
Hopefully I will lose a few lbs lol.
I know I am thinking far ahead here but in June we are going abroad for a week, where do you guys put your pets when away? Don't really like the thought of her in kennels, might see if a family member can look after her.0 -
I just don't go away :rotfl: If we did, I'd probably get family to stay, if it was for a short period of times. With my GSD being reactive, I would most likely just advise them not to bother walking him, it wouldn't matter short-term (he's used to missing walks because it's advised that when a reactive dog has a reaction, you avoid any triggers for a while - he's perfectly content with a day or two of games in the garden instead of a walk). If we were away for 10-14 days or something, I think I'd kennel them just so I knew they were in a completely secure setup with no risk of escape, accidents, etc.
You could always send her to the kennels for one night just to see how she copes, maybe some point in April or May.0 -
Yeah maybe do that. There are kennels who keep the dogs in their own homes too, one runs a doggy class thing during the days so could even take her to the class so she gets used to the people.
Not sure. If I can get my brother to watch her I would rather that but he has a baby so he might not be able to. Parents usually would watch her no problem but I am going away with them this year !!0 -
The GSD class I take Tyson to has one of the instructors there who 'kennels' dogs whilst they go on holiday. She has them stay in here house with her.
That's what I am going to do this year when I go away. I think its about £8 a night, but with Tyson she said she would also do a bit of training with him as she has dogs and he isn't great with other dogs. Perfect learning opportunity for him!0
