The solution is so easy really, £1000 fine no if's or but's, can't pay/wont pay, take the car. Possible problem's no bloody coppers to be seen these day's to enforce it."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

The same sort of setup can be achieved with some satnav systems.
I have a Garmin unit, and this can be connected to a mobile phone via bluetooth, (there is a microphone built in) and the satnav can be tuned into a spare radio frequency so the sound is played through the car audio system.0 -
I live between a nursery/infant school and a senior school, you would not believe the amount of people with kids in the car, while on the phone. When one was waiting to turn the corner i shouted at her to put the phone away,i got a two finger salute.Nice!!I just pray to god the kids are not in the car when she has an accident(waiting to happen).0

OP i totally agree with you, it is a total act of stupidity but what can you do ? Im quite amazed how people can put the lives of other drivers (pedestrians too) but also the lives of any passengers in danger.
Its even worse when speed is involved.0 -

What's wrong with the elastic band kit? Some phones are voice activated nowadays just like hands free kits.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

They could legislate for a low-level phone jammer to be installed in the electronic circuitry of new cars, or create an electronic "cage" round the car to stop signals passing through it.
The problem is that it could hardly be applied to existing cars - just to new ones and, by doing so, could be detrimental in the short term to the sales figures for new cars.
I don't think that any major party likely to form a government in the UK see phones and drivers as a priority. They pay lip-service to it, as do the police, but it's low on their lists of jobs that need tackling.
How do you suppose taxi drivers take bookings then ? Amongst many other industries you require the use of the phone on the road.
It's not about banning the use of mobile phones whilst driving, it's about making it safe ie hands free kits. Otherwise on that trail of thought we should also get rid of the radio and passengers who can also cause distractions.0 -

They do that by mobile? Here hires are either given out automatically via PDA/sat nav type things or if they're in the stone ages, they still use the radio to communicate. We don't have black cabs (except in huge cities like Edinburgh), just the "mini cab" ones. You keep using that word. If you have a look here:
https://support.garmin.com/support/manuals/searchManuals.faces
and download the correct manual for the unit you have, you will find the full setup procedure.0
