    Go out now and buy plaina fl and make for tea instead. SR flour will not rise you will get a thick cake type pudding.

    My recipe 1 heaped table spoon pl flour per person plus one extra. Two eggs, dash cold water. add cold milk until consistency of thick milk shake. salt and peppper. Leave to stand for a minimum of 1 hour. Standing does something to flour/starch!

    Put small knob of lard in tins, oil does not work as well. Put in hot oven 220c, leave at least 10-15 mins until fat in steaming. Add batter (may need thinning with extra milk) cook top of oven approx 15-20 mins.

    Beautiful puddings at a fraction of price of Aunt bessys, freeze any left over. Voila!!

    Is US SR flour different to the stuff we have in the UK? I notice that recipe is measured in cups.

    Have to say that although I'm a big fan of yorkies, I HATE making them so for me, it's Aunty Bessies or nowt.

    Maybe it is a left over hang-up from childhood when it was always my job to make the pudding mix. Or maybe from some nasty experiences I've had with very hot fat burns on my arms. icon8.gif

    This isn't an American recipe as there is no such thing as SR flour over there. You buy a big bag of General Purpose Flour (Plain to you and me) and add baking powder to recipes as required. HTH

    Another tip is to put your patty tin in the oven while you are making the mixture. When you take the tin out stand it briefly over direct heat- uselful if you have gas- so that it is really sizzling hot once you put the mixture in. Also stand the patty tin on a baking tray which makes it easier to handle.

    A friend of mine swears by using SR flour in Yorkshire Puddings, it's all she ever uses. Her puddings are fab! She ends up with 12-20 people there for Sunday dinner who all say the same.

  • try this it is cheating though! my mum bought some aunt bessies round and my oh hates them, so i took them out of the siver foil and put them in my own pudding dish with my own oil and they tasted just like mine and rose just as well!

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Have just made four enormous yorkshire puddings with
    4 oz self-raising flour
    2 eggs
    1/2 pint milk
    and they turned out wonderfully, we filled them with sweet potato and carrot mash, boiled potatoes, peas, broccoli, green beans and gravy. They were very well risen. I put oil in my sandwich tins, heated them in the oven for 15 minutes, while I made the batter. I used my electric whisk as I was entertaining my 2 year old at the time and they rose beautifully.
    We are all now very full indeed. How any of them dared mention what was for pudding I do not know ...

  • Just googled and found this so I will give it a go tonight and let you know!

    Ingredients:
    4 eggs
    2 cups whole milk
    2 cups self raising flour
    dash of salt & pepper
    butter (enough to grease muffin tin)

    Instructions:
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and warm a muffin tin (this is the only way to get your Yorkshire pudding to cook properly, and that was told to me by a lady from Yorkshire so I believe it!)

    In mixer bowl combine eggs, milk, flour and pepper & salt. Beat vigorously with fork for 1 1/2 minutes.

    Pour in batter into preheated muffin tin no more than half-way. Bake in 400 degree F oven for 30 minutes. Serve with a roast, baked potatoes, and your favourite veggies.
