Not had that problem, Amit. Sorry. :( Have you done a fresh XP installation? If not, I'd strongly suggest doing so. Once you've done that, reinstall the drivers from the PB site.

AOL broadband or dial up? Did you use the preinstalled software? I still think you're better off putting a fresh XP install on there, rather than relying on the PB crap. Seriously, the preinstalled software is badly flawed. It has caused me no end of problems. You're obviously not talking about checking aol mail, are you? (Unless you're trying to go through their webmail site?). Have you tried downloading firefox and seeing if that will work? Have you removed NIS and NAV? What other changes have you made to the laptop?

Well, I've gotta give my condolences to all you guys and gals having hasstles with these laptops. I've done a format an fresh install of XP, pumpud up the ram, installed a few essentials like ZoneAlarm and AVG, got it hooked up wirelessly and all is going very smoothley. It may be a matter of time before anything happens, but if it does, I will do my utmost to exercise my consumer ooomph to get the best of of PC World as poss :)

Only thing annoying me is that the fan seems to be on alnost constantly, however the laptop has mostly been on the carpeted floor and on my lap (where it should be I would have thought!). Perhaps each of those locations doesn't really give it time to cool down?!

On the subject of Zonealarm and AVG...... :)

I installed AVAST....... Not sure if I need a firewall too?

Agreed also, sorry for the folk who are having problems. :(

I think perhaps you might find in the instuction book that these are two places where a laptop should NOT be used ;) I know they are called laptops but you may need to buy a bean bag type tray to place it on, or just a normal tray will help. With mine, not a PCW one, there are air vents on the bottom and tiny little "feet" to elevate it allowing the air to get out/in? Obviously I have used it on my lap, as you do, but find the fan comes on a lot less when placed on a hard surface.

I remember seeing a tray type thing for laptops on QVC a few months back designed to aid air flow whilst insulating you from the heat from the fans

No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you
