OK..... Having now installed Zonalarm, Norton Control Center has started rearing it's ugly head..... Q) Should I still have any Norton components?

so what type of blank dvd disk should i buy for this laptop for making dvd copy dvd-r or dvd+r i want to play them in my plaststion 2 or dvd player which disk is the best

Amit - dvd-r works best, as it will work in most players. The newer players will play both dvd-r and dvd+r.

Tojo - you shouldn't have any norton components left on your pc. Go back to the Symantec website (link given earlier in the thread) and look to remove the folders listed on the Removel of NIS page.

Using the PB link worked fine, and the Norton Security Center only appeared after I installed zone alarm  ..... It appears in the damn Windows Firewall bit and having tested a little, it turns of Zonealarm each time you shutdown, restart. :(

I'll have a stab tomorrow at the symantec site, as the young un is into FM 2005 just now. (I'll be glad when Easter hols are over :p )

    Hi all.
Can anyone advise what is the best wireless card to get for this laptop?
    and where from please.

£10 + postage for this one from ebuyer:

My brother's using it in his laptop and it's running fine.

If you want to spend a little more (no need unless you're going to be file-sharing really) check this one out for £20:

Hmm, I'm a little confused, however this is becoming a regular occurance!

I grabbed some of the PNY RAM, installed it and started the lappy up.

Went to Control Panel, System, then to the General tab to check the RAM had been recognised. Hooraay! It had, however I did notice that the process was listed as being a Sempron 2600+, 801mhz.

Should this be? Could someone else check in there to see whether theirs states the same or not?

    Thanks lots

Darn it, now I'm even more confused.

After doing a format an reinstall of operating system, the processor speed is constantly listed as being 1.6ghz. As I'm testing the battery out at the moment (not looking very impressive), I want the processor to do it's energy saving thing, by operating at the 801mhz whilst idle.

Any ideas how this can be turned on?

It seems so far, that a minute of real time is equivalent to about 3 minutes on the battery status monitor :(

I'll give it a few charges and discharges to make judegement I think.

    Does that sound wise?

    Crashing again. Back to the:

    windows/system32/config corrupt message again.

I did absolutely nothing. It's been running fine all day, then wham! Gone it was. Running Windows Recovery Console now. I'd love to know what's causing it. It's not the PB original windows install, as it's got a fresh XP install on there. Something is corrupting my registry and I've no clue what it is. I never once had this problem with my Dell Inspiron.

Just had a thought - wonder if the ram i got from PC World is dodgy?
This certainly sounds like a hardware problem. Try removing the extra RAM for a while, and see what happens. Dodgy memory sticks can cause all sorts of weird problems. And I'm pretty sure it can't be a software issue or we'd all be experiencing the same problems.

My laptop is working fine so far. But I have some extra RAM and a wireless card/internal antenna on the way, so fingers crossed! ;)
