New drivers available for the Realtek AC97 sound card, by the way.

They should work on this laptop (although I think the laptop doesn't like my D Link PCMCIA card!). You can surf where there's an open wireless network (i.e. not secured), or in wifi hotspots. There are some free hotspots around still, but most require that you pay to use them now. Do a google search for free wifi hotspots. If you were to sit outside my house right now, you'd be able to surf for free, as I've yet to secure my network. :p

My laptop just crashed again after being on for 30 minutes. Wifi card's out now. Will see if it crashes again. If it does, I'll uninstall the wifi card drivers, as I think that's more likely the cause of the problem. Did a recovery using WRC again, and no serious error message appeared on reboot.

It's not the same one as my D Link (which I bought over a year ago to use with my Dell Inspiron). You would be able to connect to the web as long as there's an open network available near you. If you don't have a wireless network set up at home, there's not really much point in getting one. (IMO). Once installed, it should automatically set itself to search for wireless networks within your range. If it doesn't, it's easy enough to switch it to do that. It is possible for someone to access your laptop if you're connected to an open network, as long as they are on the same network and your laptop is open to sharing.

You can buy one, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to find an open network.

I have a quick question for everyone

Is my laptop the only one which makes a clicking sound every few seconds. I presume it is the HD, it just gets very annoying although it does stop when the HD is being heavily used.

    Thanks.

My HDD doesn't make clicky sounds. My DVD drive does, though.

My laptop is generally working fine with the Belkin Wireless PCMCIA Card.
The internal speakers on mine are incredibly tinny, is that the same for all?
Named after my cat, picture coming shortly

Yep, the internal speakers are crap. My lappy's hooked up to a set of Dell speakers (better than the onboard ones!)
