By the way, I found this:

    http://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/index.php?PibItemNr=6952000000&PibItemParent=platform_Lynx_K8#show

Puts NIS back into add/remove programs so that you can uninstall it easily.

Oh Perlease tell me this works? ..... Currently making master CD's, and this looks a lot simpler than the print off I have in front of me. :p

Well mine has gone back to the shop and has been condemned as beyond repair. Oh well perhaps £289.99p towards a good lap top is better than £289.99p wasted on a !!!!!! laptop.

    You didn't simply take/demand a replacement?

Just download all the drivers from the E6 download page at www.packardbell.co.uk

Install a crisp fresh copy of XP and enjoy fast, cluter free laptop computing!

This has to be the best deal ive ever had! loads of jealous friends!

Done that - only problem is my Windows XP disc is from Dell! New question: how do I remove the dell crap? ;-)

Actually, there's far less dell crap on there than there was PB crap on the original installation. Hopefully, this will work. Downloading WinXP SP2 at the mo. :(

Zaccy, can't believe you didn't demand a replacement!! By the way, the help line bloke said my problem was common on these laptops! Not looking good. Hopefully, the fresh install has sorted it. Failing that, I've got to change wifi card, as that's where the incompatibility seems to be. No idea why it's causing a massive corruption of windows, mind you.

I think it does work, Tojo. It's direct from PB and says it puts NIS back into add/remove so that you can uninstall it. Hell, it's even called NIS uninstaller! :p

Hey, be gentle with me! I've had a very hard day. I've been reformatting a Dell Inspiron, cleaning up a Targa Visionary and having just finished getting this PB just how I wanted it, the damn thing dies on me! I've only just finished reformatting the PB and putting on a fresh install of XP and am now in the process of getting all those bloody updates! I've spent 11 hours messing with various pcs and laptops today. I don't know how people could do this for a living, as it drives me up the wall!

Oh, and to top it all off, my two dell printers turned up today. Still got to sort them out before i go to bed. :p

Top Man... worked a treat... Well sort of. :p ..... After uninstalling and updating stuff I kept getting a Norton user agreement to accept. Not accepting it meant it kept popping up with each reboot. That said, their are no signs of it anywhere. :)

Purple thingy gone, all them ugly toolbars gone, got my wanadoo broadband on, and here I am. :)

Now.... Just to get rid of the right AOL folders. ;)

    Woman!

Seems my fresh install may have solved my problem. It's been running fine for the last few hours. Installed everything I need to for now. Unfortunately lost all mu excel files when it crashed and refused to reboot in safe mode, system restore or in partial factory restore. Other than that, it's working well now. My advice now, in light of all the problems i've had: do a completely fresh install and get rid of the PB crap. Download the drivers you need from PB and away you go.

Zaccy - Sorry to hear about that! You could always threaten them with trading standards, I suppose? After all, they told you the product was not available when it was. They changed mine no problem. I didn't have a problem burning dvds, as I didn't use the software that came with the laptop - I use nero.
