I called last night to confirm the order was still valid
Sales guy was nice but could not get order up on screen- even though it was packaged ready with invoice with my name "in the cage" plus many more at full price in stock
He called floor manager over to help-
His reply - it's been cancelled on system and said
1. I must be later than 24 hrs after order
- I was not any anyway it says collect before closing on Thursday
2. I must have cancelled it
- Yeah I have a habit of bagging a great deal, driving 125 mile round trop for something I had cancelled
I told him to call the helpline- and not to worry- no rush, so long as I got it in the end ( fancied nipping for a bite to eat anyway)- but he said that was not neccesarily going to happen [ enter red flag to bull]
He was about to take away my print out ( even though his own had all the same details) , and got upset when I said I wanted to keep it- all got a bit heated
Transpires he knew he had to sell at that price, but if he authorised it it, the loss was out of his "target" so had to get HO to reinput it ( no one knows why its was cancelled in first place)
No yet out of box - but looks like a bargain! cheers
( on a side issue I do worry about DSG - seems discounting heavily on a number of items- are they having trouble?)
Payless, exactly the same thing happened to me at Ipswich today. I went along with my printout, got my laptop in my hands, went over to the till only to have my reservation show up as cancelled on their system. The manager rang their live support only to be told that it must have been cancelled by me (which it wasn't). The manager then argued with them for 20 minutes about it, escalating it up and up until finally he was told that they'd sort it out, but it wouldn't be today. At that point, they wouldn't authorise the manager to take a manual payment, or give him a new code to put it through the till.
As I was leaving Ipswich, one of the team leaders called me to say that customer services had said that only the store could have cancelled my reservation and that as there was no contract between me and PC World, they didn't have to do a thing. He offered me my petrol money back, though. In other words - "we don't have to sell it to you anyway, so go away!"
Off back to the store I went to find that they'd been arguing with Customer Services about it and had gone through their screens step by step to show that it's impossible for the stores to cancel a reservation (they just let it lapse). Whilst I was there, they also called another MSE member (CarcusCrae) to let him know that because he'd placed a number of reservations for laptops at various different stores, they were not going to sell him the one he'd reserved at Ipswich. Suddenly his order disappeared off the system too, although no-one had actually cancelled it! They then called customer services again about the disappearing order (mine hadn't disappeared, just came up as cancelled) and CS authorised them to take a manual payment from me and sort it out with them afterwards. So, 3 hours later, I left with my laptop. I've got to say the staff at Ipswich were great throughout, but CS in Sheffield is diabolical (they even put the phone down on one of the PCW staff when she was trying to talk to them about it!) It seems to me that there are massive problems with the collect@store system - it doesn't work. It cancels orders, it removes orders, and CS won't take any responsibility for it.
One other thing - I bought the ram upgrade for £22 (256MB ram), and have already installed it. My ram should be showing at 512MBs now, but it's only showing as 448MBs. Any ideas?
Carcus, Ipswich refused to sell you your laptop under orders from HO, I'm afraid. Don't be too harsh on them.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

sounds a bit like what happened with us.. the girl accidently deleted the transaction and couldn't recall the parked one.. so she had to do a managers discount of 50% and is gonna end up with a major bollocking :S hehe.0 -

hey! That's right - some of the RAM is used by the onboard graphics (up to 64mb) I recommend you change this down a bit as you won't need a lot of ram for the onboard graphics on the laptop.0 -
up and running typing on the new laptop
(albeit dial up, as my BB is down - my local exchange hve a habit of just pulling plugs I think)
Will try and remove norton, and get rid P Bell toolbar ( try typing in moneysavingexpert!)
I might go and get the ram upgade - do you product code or type?

Then off to ebay to sell my old (slow)laptopAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
