there's a seperate add or remove programs thing in the stupid packard bell tools section - try that..
We want rid of it too - have just disabled it for now.. will be putting avast and zonealarm on when I get the chance..0 -
In the Milton Keynes store today when I went to collect my printer (missed out on the laptops) there was a small pile (about half a dozen only) with no prices on. But next to the customer services desk was a photocopy of a leaflet with these on there at £49.99 as a clearance item! (Possibly an up-coming advert in this weekend's papers?).
What is REALLY annoying is that I actually bought one of these printer/scanners on Friday for £79.99 in Leicester and felt really chuffed that I'd argued them down to this price because they had left an old price label on shelf showing £20 off, while the massive pile next to it had a huge £99.99 price tag on it.
Also got a 256Mb USB memory stick for £14.99 which is a reasonably good price, given that these are reduced instore to £29.99.
Supplementary: This printer uses a USB 1.1 cable and PCW have these online at £3.09 (made by Belkin) but you can reserve and collect these too (they're under accessories). So if you're ordering a printer don't forget to get one of these too.
Other offers also include:
PNY 128Mb flash drive - £9.39
Packard Bell USB external floppy drive - £19.99 (great for those Dell buyers)
Windows XP Home upgrade - £79.99
HP #56 Inkjet cartridge (black) - £11.99
Emprex Dual Layer 16x DVD Rewriter - £44.50
Plus lots of inkjet printers with discounts too.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

Its called 'Smart Restore' and it wont let you remove Norton, only gives you the option to install the damn thing.
Anyway, follwed the link i gave before and now ive got rid of it all. Its amazing how much fasterv it boots up now. Norton is pants!
Just a tip, if you bash F2 on the keyboard when the system firsts boots up then scroll accross to 'boot' and change the first boot device to 'Hard Drive' It will crank up the speed from switch on to Windows (just eliminates the need to check the cdrom first for a boot device)
Thanks for your replies guys!Hardcore moneysaver0 -

I'm sure in the t&c's of the Collect @ Store service it says you only need the reference number, it doesn't say anything about printing off the confirmation (I don't have a printer anyway). I'm going to collect my laptop tonight, and I only have a reference number, so I hope they won't try to sell to me at the normal price.0 -

Woby_Tide,
I have a very helpful contact (at least he was for me) at PC world customer services. Don't know what your actual problem was (didn't read through all the posts) but the contact is a guy called John on ext 22102 in customer services (0870 2420444). May be worth a go?

Removal of Norton Internet Security (Firewall & Antivirus) from the Packard Bell Easynote E6:
STEP ONE
Download then run this ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/nis/nis2004xp_reg_removal.reg
Once complete delete that file.
STEP TWO
Next download and install Windows Script 5.6 from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-
STEP THREE
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, select Show all files or Show hidden files and folders.
Click OK.
Delete the Norton Internet Security folders:
C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security
If It comes up with an access denied error when you try and delete the Antivirus folder you need to:
Open the folder
Hit Ctrl and A together (select all) All the files will then be highlighted
Find the file it said couldnt be deleted then press Ctrl and tap on that file (that one file will be deselected) you now hit delete and it will delete all the files except that one you deselected (you can delete that later)
So you should delete everything you can from C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security (you should now just be left with one folder in this directory called Antivirus which contains that one file you couldnt delete at that time
Delete the following three folders:
C:\Program Files\Symantec
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec
Close Windows Explorer.
Reboot
Go back to C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security and delete that final Antivirus folder and your done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know its a pain but this is THE ONLY WAY to get rid of it. Youll be glad you did!
OF COURSE YOU DO NEED ANTIVIRUS AND FIREWALL SOFTWARE but I suggest you use a different brand, try Mcafee.
Please note that when you run the Packard Bell utilty 'Smart Restore' after getting rid of Norton it will throw up an error because it cant find the norton files. Just click ignore and it works fine.
