What is your charity shop bargain of the week?

Trip to the two £1 shops in town got me three cool geeky tops for DsS. At ten and a half he's realised he's not so keen on pink and bright colours anymore. He wants to wear black. These ones are dark but with prints and logos. Comic book themed stuff etc.
I also got myself a nice black and patterned maxi dress. Originally George Moda from Asda.Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

Interesting! According to the GOV.UK website....
'Charities and community amateur sports clubs can apply for charitable rate relief of up to 80% if a property is used for charitable purposes.'
and according to the Charity Finance Group.....
'At present charities occupying commercial property are entitled to relief on business rates, provided it is used wholly or mainly for charitable purposes. Charities are eligible for 80% mandatory relief, which local (billing) authorities can choose to top up by an additional 20%.'
We have lost 3 charity shops here over the last year or so.only cost me £3 so could have been a lot worse.

I have gone totally book crazy again this week.
On Wednesday, I popped into a chazzer and bought 3 books for £1 (including a super-specialist book edited by a colleague!) and a card for 10p.
Yesterday evening I bought 2 paperbacks for £1 each, and 2 hardbacks for £2 each. I realised they had been donated by the same benefactor, and that I was unlikely to see any of them in a chaz again. All were business-related.
And today, I went on an impromptu trawl:
- Shop #1: 2 paperbacks from award-winning authors, one thick coffee-table book on travel and culture, and a child's story book for my niece, at 10p each.
- Shop #2: a book that I had borrowed earlier this year from the library. It's less than 18 months old, and one I'll go back to tine and again; £1. Plus 50p on a brand new Disney mug for my niece.
- Shop #3: is where I went really mad. I bought 3 books for myself, and 7 hardbacks (including a very new looking jigsaw book) for my niece, not realising that they were on BoGoF. So I got the the till and was charged just £1.40 for the lot.
That makes a total of 22 good quality books for £9.80 in 5 days! I suppose it's just as well I bought anther bookcase this weekValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

Well if your local library has closed down it sounds as if your neighbours have a good alternative now! :rotfl:0 -
I bought a lovely Tula handbag for £10, virtually brand new. Similar styles online go for £90-120. I have a never worn off white Ann Harvey jacket in silk/linen that cost £5.
We have about 10 charity shops in our small market town. I think they are getting more price savvy as big brands/designer labels are much more expensive. I saw an Emma Bridgwater teapot in the locked cabinet of one shop which had a £40 price label:eek:. It was there for months.0 -
upside down bear i have a pair of avenue denim shorts from aldi and they are lovely really great quality and generously cut i should think the shoes would be great qualityonwards and upwards0

I've got a job interview on Thursday.
Teal is suddenly the in colour but I don't like the strange, frilled, fluted, bugle or bell sleeves that are everywhere.
My local BHF had a 3/4 sleeve, teal, F&F top with a silver bar detail for £4.99.
Yes. I know it's T*sco. But the colour is lovely and it's smart enough for the interview. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
