Hello ladies not so much a bargain but me and my 7 year old son were charity shopping and as usual he headed straight for the kids books and started reading - he treats charity shops like a library!
He pulled out a book called "Hair in Funny Places" and I carried on browsing, not thinking of it. After about a minute it clicked that he'd picked up a kids sex education book but by then he'd already reached the page which showed a cartoon naked woman with a massive bush and boobs!
He did seem quite interested though so I let him carry on reading for a bit, but strangely enough he declined my offer to buy it for him! :rotfl:0 -

Overheard in my local Barnados yesterday:
"I've got some books for you"
"Well, I can take them but I have to tell you that they'll probably end up being scrapped as we get so many. About 250 donations a week and we only sell about 20".
I suggested they have a book sale but she replied that prices were set by head office.
Well, head office ought to be informed that charging £1.99 for a OK condition paperback is - in our area - downright silly.
50 yards away our hospice shop sells similar books for 50p to 75p and the hospice clearance shop about 250 yards away sells them for 25p or 5 for £1.
Unless it's a book that you've been looking for for ages, you're hardly likely to pay 8 times as much for a Dan Brown or Lee Child.
The lady walked out without leaving the books.0 -
Went into the AgeUK shop in a town that I never really visit that much despite it literally only being less than a 5 minute drive down the road. I needed to post something and decided it would be quicker than going into the main town, and on the way back I'd pop into the charity shop, as my Uncle mentions it all the time.
Well, all clothing (apart from the wedding/prom dresses) was a pound. Some decent names like Principles, Wallis, French by French Frost and a BNWT DIVA dress worth £108.99!! I ended up coming out having spent £18! Most on dresses, but also a top and a cardigan, and a pair of shorts for DH and a Garnet birthstone fairy for 50p (was my Dad's birthstone)
Went in a few days later and got another top, a bag, a travel/document wallet from the MV Victoria and a little ceramic chicken trinket/storage pot! It's a massive shop where I could easily have spent ALOT more!0 -
I don't blame her Pollycat, I would have too. I wouldn't leave them somewhere where they were just going to be scrapped. Our local hospice shop has tables of books set up in various places such as a local coffee shop, a garden centre etc and they've raised hundreds by selling them for 50p-£1 each.0

Oh, and yesterday went through to the shop that's closing down in the city and ended up buying another 3 dresses. Everything was half price (not £1 like the woman had said, but I didn't really expect it to be) and I got a Diane Von Furstenburg dress for £4!0

Some fab bargains there, Georgiegirl.
I find charity shop bargains are a bit like buses.
None for ages then they all come along at once. :rotfl:Georgiegirl256 wrote: »I don't blame her Pollycat, I would have too. I wouldn't leave them somewhere where they were just going to be scrapped. She seemed oblivious to the fact that the reason they are only selling a few books per week is that they are so expensive compared to other charity shops in the close vicinity.
They've had the same books on the shelves for months.
If I'd been the woman I'd have expressed shock and disappointment that a charity would even consider scapping items that had been donated instead of 'piling them high and selling them cheap'.
And if I was in the habit of taking my unwanted items to that charity shop, I'd have a rethink about continuing doing that as you don't know if they are doing the same with clothes and bric-a-brac.
Mine all go to the hospice shop. Always very grateful and priced reasonably to shift stock.0
