What is your charity shop bargain of the week?

Back to my question........ Is it still true that the large dump bins are just taken away and weighed for rags per kg of clothing rather than the clothes taken to a charity shop and organised for sale.
.
Yes I think it is true. Same as with those bags you get through the door. (For the majority of charities)
I never noticed until my husband pointed it out, it says on the back how much the charity gets, and it isn't very much tbh.0 -
I agree, rarely use the charity bags through the door - unless I know there's a shop locally that DOES sell them (i.e. Age Concern, BHF etc).
I prefer to take mine to the local Hospice shop anyway, but would expect Oxfam dump bins to be for rag recycling (which is a shame when you've been careful to sort/wash stuff for donation).Normal people worry me.0 -
I tend to use doorstep bags to carry stuff going to my usual donation places (turned inside out
).

We worked it out that you'd be better off taking your clothes to one of those shops that give you so much per kg.
Seems a shame when there's a lot of really good clothing in excellent condition just being ragged.0 -
If I have any clothes that are really past their best and only fit for rags I label them as such and take them to the charity shop. The staff are happy because they don't have to sort them. Like other people I use the bags posted through the door as rubbish bags.:hello: N:hello:A :hello:N :hello:A :hello:M :hello:A :hello:G :hello:S :hello:0

I got a lovely boden tunic today that looks UN worn. It's a bit more expensive than I would normally pay at£9.99 but it will get lots of wear as its black I also got a lovely Ted baker scarf nwt for £5.99 in bright red and that will look fab with it. I was tempted by lots of other things but I'm trying to reduce my wardrobe by giving to charity or ebaying ( total sales s o far. £460 and 48 items gone)0

I bought a beautiful cerise princess-y dresses for our little Princess for the princely sum of £2 (age 3-4 but she's tall so I think we might find an occasion for it as early as next summer). Also another well-made cotton summer dress for another £2 (pink again, naturally).
Plus 2 blouses for my mum, who chose them herself so no chance of them going back.
And another 6 books pour moi!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I love a browse round the charity shops and we have a few. We also have an Age Concern warehouse which is much cheaper than the shop in town and has clothes half marked price and all shoes are £2. I got black Gabor mid heel shoes for work and Next Italian collection high heeled brogues, per una longline jumper two oven to table dishes, 6 pewter type napkin rings and two different sized pudding basins - grand total £11. Really chuffed!Original mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!0
