What is your charity shop bargain of the week?

  • Well, not exactly a bargain, but something I am very pleased with nonetheless! I have been on the lookout for an everyday bag, with lots of pockets, that goes on the shoulder (but not exactly a shoulder bag) for ages. In Oxfam in Ripon I saw just what I wanted. A bronzy gold bag by Liz Claiborne. It looks brand new and just what I wanted. Then I saw the price - £9.99! Eeek! That put me off and I sadly left it on the shelf! A few charity shops later I relented and went back for it and am so glad I did, despite the price!! It looks so classy!

I saw a fleece Barbour jacket for £8 the other day. Shame it was 2 sizes too big! The cost in pasties to bring me up to size would have outweighed any savings made, I suspect.
  • This morning's best car boot bargain (sorry, I know it's not a charity shop, but just wanted to share) was a brand new boxed Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat and a brand new boxed Urban Decay Eye Primer, £4 each.

Oh, and a brand new boxed Sanctuary Spa giftset for £1.

2 good finds today in Worcester! in Scope in Worcs city centre, I got a Whistles top for £4.

Went across the river to St John's and found a lampshade in the RSPCA shop.

That might not sound very exciting but I am having a new bathroom later this year and am getting most of the fittings from Ebay (as cheaply as I can!) We want it in a 1930's sort of style and there, in the RSPCA, was a 1930's Art Deco glass lampshade! £10 on the sticker, reduced to £5!!!

Luckily, the bathroom tiles are going to be white with a row of blue towards the top so should look good.

ETA - just been having a look and the lampshade is stamped Interiors 1900. So not an antique but have looked around and there is nothing made by that company that is cheap.

  • patricia50, a Remoske for 50p - you lucky thing. I wouldn't be without mine!

I popped into the local CS with a few things yesterday, and got a Rowallan business bag - a fancy briefcase, with a padded laptop section inside - for £10. It's something I always need as my way of organising work is to have different briefcases for each client! Just checked on Ebay and there is one at buy it now of £45.

Plus, on Saturday, a Paul Costelloe parka-style rain jacket, in a wonderful shade of sulphur yellow, also £10. And a genuine Puffa gilet - extra large, so for Ebay in the winter - for £2.50!

I bought 3 Prestige pans with lids for £11.50. All very dirty and need a good clean. Great for my son who needs to replace his pans. Virtually the same as mine which I bought 30 years ago!

Just wanted to add that having spent a week trying to clean the 3rd minging pan, I finally got the marks off...by using chrome polish cleaner..Autsol. Wish I had used it earlier. Now all 3 pans are lovely , gleaming and without burn marks!

Paid a visit to my favourite cs yesterday - St Gemma's in Otley. As usual, everything 99p (except for a small rack of "designer" clothes!). A good rummage produced a brand new black Davidoff t shirt for DS, a shirt for DH, a beige cotton skirt, a lace trimmed strappy vest top and a pretty white t shirt with lace and white sequin embelishment for myself. A good haul for £4.95!

My next visit was to the Heart Research shop and there I found a lovely M & S check shirt in fine cotton, which goes with the skirt perfectly! £2.99. To crown it all I then found a book by my current favourite author for 50p in the Lions book shop. So, all in all, a good day was had!
