We must have done Frith. We'll all have to wear something to recognise other old stylers similar to the scarf I've heard they wear on mums net. :-)

Old-stylers have proposed wearing a small safety pin in a panel or as a 'brooch' to identify ourselves to like-minded people :)

  • Been to Hay on Wye today and discovered that the red cross shop has a section in the back of the shop that has new goods that need minor repairs.

Got a fitted denim shirt from there which fitted perfectly for £4. It had an minute hole near the shoulder seam which only needed a stitch and it was all fixed. It took me ages to find the fault even though it was printed on the label.

Loads of other gorgeous and trendy stuff just not my size. Worse fault I spotted was a button missing and it was all good value too. Will definitely go back again as its not far from ds2's school, just forget to go in that direction. Silly really.

My local chazza had a pair of worn Hobbs shoes in shocking pink today and was asking £45 for them! The matching bag, one of those funny little capsule type things, (like the Duchess of Dolittle has been using on her recent holibobs *), was priced at £35..... And it had a dent in it!! The hospice chazza had a nice woolly M & S skirt in pink & purple for £2.50....much more my sort of price. :D

    * apologies to any royalists :o

Got a monopoly game for smaller son earlier this week and we had a game this evening.

Looks like it's barely been played, everything there.

    And it's the 1961 edition!

I am confused by last week's article on charity shops. Its headline suggested that charity shops' prices were too high for the poor, yet the quotes moaned that gold necklaces and Yves St Laurent jackets were no longer available for a pittance

    Which article was that?

I don't think charity shops have ever been just for 'the poor', but I agree that some - not all - charity shops seem to have lot the plot in pricing goods.

I've been shopping in charity shops for many years and have rarely (if ever) seen gold necklaces and YSL jackets at any price - let alone 'for a pittance'.

Years ago there were stories that the charity shops around Knoightsbridge and Kensington had designer clothes at knockdown prices. Not any more. The shops sell them off on Ebay as they know their worth to the 'vintage' clothes collectors.

Took in two bags of donations in and ended up spending a fiver today at Age Concern - Disney Mickey Mouse patterned onesie, a thick cream button through fleece jacket, a "Dash" button-through cream/green top, a pair of barely worn leather court shoes and a pair of barely worn "Office" brown leather dolly shoes ..... there were lots of great clothes in

Sad to know that despite everything being only a £1 that the staff have to continually vigilant to stop people shoplifting
