  • If I go to other parts of the UK either as a day trip or holiday, I try to visit the CS as 9 of 10 items I have bought from CS away from home have been the local hospice shops.

I bought in the Weldmar Hospice charity shop in Dorchester last week BRAND NEW Hotter shoes with box for £10 and a box of 6 melamine coasters unused for £2.75.

The Hotter shoes were from last autumn and my mum still had the catalogue and they were £75!
  • My 2 bookcases are being collected tomorrow morning. I do like the good feeling from giving donations when you can't afford to give cash, & can't buy stuff. It all helps - after all if you love charity shop shopping, donating ensures it keeps going. :)

Most of the furniture my parents didn't want anymore when they downsized last year went to charity. Then my parents bought 3 G-Plan display cabinets (one of them is G-Plan-esque), smaller then the ones they had for £70 each. They match their dining chairs and table.
They bought their 3 piece suite for the conservatory (Ikea) for £65. The covers were grubby and they washed out in the washer.
  • Lovely warm slouchy TU cardigan from BHF for £3.25 and a sleeping bag for £2.00!!

I noticed when I moved house last year that my sleeping bag had gone, no idea when, how or if I lent it out etc, just.... Gone lol Probably a good thing though, some memories attached to it that I'd now rather not have anyway!

Need to get this new one out and wash it, whether it smells or not lol

  • I got a couple of nice jackets yesterday. A dark green with hood, very trendy one from Topshop for about a tenner (quite a lot but looked brand new). Hubby says it makes me look like an elf! And another lighter green tweedy one from Hobbs for £3.50 - bargain of the month definitely as Hobbs is really quite expensive.

Plus two David Bowie 7" singles and a book about decorating halloween cupcakes which is quite cool and will be great for the halloween bake off at work.
  • A friend has got the opportunity to shoot "vermin" for a local farmer - this means pigeons and rabbits who are eating the crops. He'd mentioned that he needed a game bag - then looked at me and said "You have a sewing machine, don't you?" hint, hint!

Well, I got some suitable material in a CS yesterday, I'm about to cut a pattern, and get out the sewing machine (another CS buy). The deal is, I provide the bag, I get some of the contents. Better, he's an ex-chef, so I'll get the pigeon breasts and fully-prepared rabbits ready for the freezer, for when I feel a Masterchef moment coming on. The nearest (admittedly expensive deli) stockist sells frozen rabbits for £13.50 each last time I looked!

Cost for material - £1.00, plus a couple of hours' work, and the deal runs until the bag falls apart.

And I also got a cone of "winter white" mohair, plus most of a ball of cream, for £1.00 - that's going to be quite a few woolly hats/ scarves for Christmas!
  • Lucky you - I would love to have access to free rabbits and pigeons! :D I used to work for someone who had a hunting dog who would often catch wild rabbits while out for a walk. She used to bring the rabbits in to me and I'd peel them and stick them in the slow cooker to make delicious rabbit stew, sometimes rabbit pie. We haven't had rabbit since I left that job as it's so expensive these days.

    Brilliant :T
  • I was looking at the fruit of the loom sweatshirts on amazon for a while debating whether or not to get one (american apparel versions are so expensive and bobble really quickly) - got a gorgeous barely worn one in my favourite colour, purple! for €3 in an out of town charity shop a couple of weeks ago! delighted :)

also picked up a pure wool, black cardigan with lovely knitted detail for €6 recently, has some flaws that i'll try to sew up, but it really is lovely, i'm very pleased!

A pair of black jeans, pair of trousers and a jumper for £1.98 in Barnardos, the Barnardos in my town, most clothes are 99p each but they are currently doing 2 pairs of trousers or jeans for 99p

2 pairs of jeans, one next and one M and S for £3 (£1.50 each) in the red cross which was closing down suddenly yesterday, my mum has volunteered in there for about 4 years now, she got staff discount and bought me them.

A jacket for £2.00 also from the red cross, I used to volunteer there and the manager gave me the jacket and gave me discount. Will be very sorry to see the shop close, the company refused to pay a £2000 a year increase the landlord was wanting for the rent and were holding out until the last minute to see if they would accept the same rent as they are just now, but it was a no and staff and volunteers got 3 days notice that the shop was shutting down.

Havent bought anything for quite some time but Ive lost a stone and a half recently and Ive still more to go so dont want to be spending a lot on jeans while Im still losing weight.
