I'm going to Cardiff in a couple of weeks - wondering if anyone knows if there are any good charity shops within walking distance of the city centre? I have a day by myself so fancy a wander around to see if I can spot any bargains :-)

There used to be 2 in the parade of shops opposite Cardiff Station...but I've not been there since 2009...

We were there last summer holidays and there were two in the parade opposite the station..... In one of them I bought a brand new, still sealed game of Bananagrams for £2 :D
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Today, a brand new white cotton/linen Per Una skirt with tags. £4.50.

Also, a brand new (no tags) Boden dark blue velvet trousers. £4.

Just love my skirt especially. The trousers are to be put aside till winter.

I bought an embroidered pure lambswool Monsoon cardigan for £1.99 from Barnados. Very pleased, even if I did feel very odd buying it on the hottest day of the year! :)

i think im in the only place that has terrible CS shops we have a BHF (which i popped into recently to look for some bits for LO and there were tesco clothes there more expensive than buying them brand new from tesco

we have an RSPCA which i do go to for a lot of my books but everything else is v expensive a pair of black asda leggings for LO for £4 when you can buy a set of 2 for £5 asdas

a massive cancer research one that mainly does furniture but is v expensive again and doesnt deliver

an age concern which isnt too bad but is right on the other side from me so i dont really visit that much it used to be great for fabrics and stuff but now its getting a lot less of those kinds of things and is moving more into furniture

it works out cheaper just to go to tescos for the kids bit

we also do a mums swap here take all the kids clothes down and swap for what ever we want not a formal thing but there is 5 or 6 with us with about 18 kids under 10 between us so there is always someone looking for bits (except for my LOs clothes as she is the youngest girl but they always want my boys stuff as he is one of the biggest)
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5

I have noticed that charity shop prices are creeping up locally. We have quite a few of them so you would think they would be cheaper. I too have noticed that garments which are cheap to start with, e.g. supermarket stuff, is being sold at silly prices. Well, I say sold but they often end up on the bargain rail. I always go for Per Una, M&S, Monsoon, Wallis or better if I can, simply because it seems more of a bargain when you know it will wash well from past experience. I don't buy cheap clothes new so I won't buy them second hand as they often look like limp rags.

A few weeks ago I bought a set of 3 vases from one of our local shops, paid £4.50 for the 3. On Saturday, an identical set were for sale in a nearby shop, all 3 for £1. I bought that set also (for spares, LOL).

Still, we need to think of the fact that we are helping charities, even if they seem to be getting it a bit wrong at times.

    Re prices:
this subject crops up every now and again on this thread.

I agree that some charity shops overprice items, especially those from supermarkets or Primark.

I posted about some high priced stuff I decided not to buy about a month ago.
A Per Una summer dress (not new and not even current season) for £19.99.

What happens to the stuff they don't sell?
Does it just go for rags?

Our local Hospice shop (where all my stuff goes when I'm having a clear out) sells clothes and books at reasonable prices and the turnover of stock is great.
Some of the other shops have had the same stock in for months.

The stuff that doesn't sell gets rotated round different shops within the charity, I think it's only for about 3 times, and then it probably gets sent to the rag man.

Or put on the sale rail.
