My local hospice shop had paperbacks buy one for 75p get one free.
Now that makes sense to me.0 -
Our hospice shop sells paperbacks for 25p or 5 for £1. :T
As I said in an earlier post, the stock changes regularly - because their clothes & books are reasonably priced.
And I think a lot of people take their books back and buy different ones, which is pretty good for the hospice funds.0 -
The thing about sale rails is that they are a magnet for the eBayers. One I go to I often get there just as an elderly (I'd say late 70s) woman is grabbing armfulls off the sale rail then taking them aside and giving them a good check to see if they are worth buying to sell on.
I was in a (different) shop the other day and the manager was telling the assistant about a woman who bought some clothes for her daughter to eBay, but the daughter didn't think they would sell so the woman who bought them wanted a refund! She didn't get one! :TI haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Today I claim the prize for seeing the most expensive item in a charity shop (along with the other folks who have been in Sue Ryder Downham!!) a chiffonier (probably spelt wrong - basically a huge sideboard) for..............wait for it...................£1,500!!!! beautiful piece of furniture for anyone who is interested. I brought a 60's double flat sheet with a funky pattern for £2 and a couple of books 95p each.
I can beat that!
£2,500 vintage pipe organ in an Oxfam furniture shop last year, apparently it had come out of a church that was being converted.
They sold it on eBay!
(I went mad and bought a church pew, it looks rubbish on our house and lives in the garage now!)0 -
Absolutely love this thread!

One of my favourite SC is local Salvation Army-they have clearance basket-everything is 50p-found there Karen Millen trousers,Monsoon pashmina,Phase Eight skirt and lot more.0 -
Absolutely over the moon. Yesterday I went into town to get my littlest boy a UV suit for playing in the paddling pool today. Everywhere except Boots had sold out of his size, and in Boots they were £13! Given that it will probably only get a week's use I was reluctant to pay that, so was delighted to find one in a charity shop for £1.50. It was a Boots brand one too, and obviously not very old as it has the new Boots Mini Club branding. Couldn't believe my luck.
I also got 3 age 2-3years M&S tops for him for 20p each and a lovely GAP shirt for £1. He's not even 1 yet, but worth putting them away at that price as they are like new and lovely quality.
We have an Age UK dress agency shop near us where you can sell your smarter clothes and the charity get 50% and you get 50%. I have sold some bits there and it is great, but my favourite thing about it is the £1 rail! Anything that doesn't sell, and the seller doesn't want back goes on there so you get some proper bargains. However I was a little :-/ when I went in yesterday to see that they had put a sign on the £1 saying that you now can't try on items from there. Seems a bit short sighted as I'm sure most people (myself included) that buy from the rail also patronise the rest of the shop as well.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
I've been charity shopping this weekend - and I've unusually found loads of things that I've liked
I suppose it's the nature of charity shopping, and what makes it interesting - lots of times, I go round loads of shops and find nothing..
For a whle, I've really needed some new summer clothes, and today I struck lucky - I went into a shop where I found five dresses I liked, all at £1.99 each!
I got a fuschia pink Wallis twist front light jersey dress, an orange/white/black patterned lightweight cotton jersey dress (John Rocha at Debenhams) a royal blue Debenhams shirt-dress, a long black bias cut linen mix maxi dress (Principles) and a grey/blue tailored (winter weight, but worth buying and putting away) Bravissimo dress... all for a tenner!
In another shop I got a nice Wallis black and white hounds tooth check single buttoned jacket, with 3/4 length sleeves - would be nice for autumn over a black dress - for £3.99...
I've just washed and dried them all (except for the jacket, although that has been in the dryer with a dry cleaning sheet!), and now feel like I've got a whole new wardrobe for less than £15!! :-)0 -
St Peter's Hospice shops around Bristol have half-price sale on everything in shop.Found today for myself:
Atmosphere summer dress-really nice!-£2.00
Per Una stretch jeans -£3.00
Ralph Lauren polo shirt-£4.00
M&S jumper-£1.00
Gap warm winter shirt for my DS-£1.00.
My favourite clearance basket in Salvation Army:
Monsoon long linen dress
brand new with tags cotton shirt by For Target
ASOS dress
cotton top by Sandwich(never heard before but just had a quick look on web and ordinary t-shirts start from 29.99:eek:
Everything 50p!
Happy,happy,happy!!!
Who needs John Lewis if you have Salvation Army nearby?;)0 -
