Today I got a long checked shirt with waist tie for £1.50. It's only Cherokee, but it's 100% cotton which I prefer - Air Ambulance
Also got a lovely multi-coloured scarf, has all sorts... green, orange, yellow, purple, blue, red along with silver thread. Really pretty. £1.50 - Air Ambulance
Then for a quid at Age Cymru I got a coral Topshop vest with a summery stitched design, also with a waist tie. Hmm, I'd say Mexican-ish lol. Bit big for me but still looks nice.
I also got a pair of sandals, but sadly they don't fit. I should've tried them on but silly me assumed they'd fit. Turns out what I thought was a UK size 7 is actually a US size 7 which is a UK 5. GAH. :mad:0 -
On Saturday I got a rather nice Betty Jackson chocolate-brown linen short-sleeved blouse with a ruffled neckline for a fiver. I'm wearing it today and it looks really nice. Hooray for the British Heart Foundation shop in Maidenhead!0

Oh, also, bit of an odd question - but does anyone know what happens to the books that don't get sold in chazza's? They must get loads coming in every day. I know in America that they get send to be shredded. Well that's what I've heard at any rate.0

I was in Leicester over the weekend, and hit every charity shop I could find.
Haul included a £4 primark scarf for a pound, a pure silk vintage style dress (Florence and Fred Ltd edition) for a fiver, an handful of Indian bangles for a pound, and a cotton summer top for £2.50.
Much better value there than in my home town!0 -
Not strictly charity shop, but my local animal rescue place opens a temporary shop in their stables for a day every few months where you can fill a bag of stuff for £5! I went at the weekend and bought the Nigella Express book for £1, an unopened bag of swim nappies for £1 (I'd been about to nip to boots to get some more
), then in the £5 bag: several nice fashion necklaces, some sunglasses, a jumper and some DVDs which are favourites here (shawshank redemption, stardust, etc), a silk scarf and a cup with my LO's name on.

I'm out at the weekend for my 40th birthday. I'd wanted to get a new top but didn't see anything I liked. At my local redcross I got a silk tunic top by Jaeger for £6. Its like new and perfect. I don't have anything like it in my wardrobe as its sort of a black tiger stripe over a cream leopard print, with button details down the front and on the sleeves.
Looking forward to wearing it!0 -

I was in a charity shop the other day and a man was collecting a load of books they were (presumably) getting rid of - it sounded like it was a regular visit for him so maybe that's what they do with them - sell them on to another firm for (possibly) ebaying or something?0 -
I help out in a charity shop. All our unsold books are collected by some chap (not sure where he comes from or what he does with them) but he pays pennies for books. It is still better to get some thing (about 4p per book I think) than nothing0

How much do you sell your books for, though?
If - like a lot of places - they are priced at £1 or £1.50 (or, like one of the BHF in our town - £2 ), they might struggle to sell.
I buy paperback books for my holidays and at the moment have a stock of approx 50, I'll pay up to £1 for an author I really like.
My local Hospice shop sell their books at 25p each or 5 for £1 and their turnover of stock is really good.
Rather than getting 4p for a book that's not sold, surely it would be better to sell them at 25p or even 10p each?
I rarely see books reduced in the main charity shops.
This is just a general moan at the pricing policy that some charities have.0 -

Maybe so. There's a used book stall in my local market and I've seen some with old charity labels with their prices still on them. Who knows!0
