What is your charity shop bargain of the week?

Now retired and with too much time on our hands ,we make a point of going out most days for a coffee or lunch in towns and villages within a 40 mile radius. With this comes the inevitable visits to the local charity shops which we find vary in the quality of goods on offer to the type of area we are in,so always a wide variety. Also finding that the prices vary dramatically.I visit one local shop that sells all books, hard and soft backs at 3 for £1. They shift loads and after read are usually returned. Many of the larger chains now charge £2.50 or more for many books and they obviously don't sell many, a bit too greedy in my humble opinion. My wife and I have bought many very nice items from clothing to furnishings and recently bought 2X two seater g-plan settees, only 2 months old for £200 the pair.Absolutely brilliant. My only grouse is that the larger chains now fill their stores with new goods at similar prices and sometimes dearer,as local traders who are having to pay full business rates and for employees. Not fair and they should be restricted to donated goods only.0

I'm not usually very lucky with my charity shop hunting, and I find the ones near me to be generally be overpriced. However I have been looking in them recently for a tray to display some scarves for a fair I'm doing so I'm popping in more often than I usually would. Which is why I spotted a White Stuff summer dress in Scope at the weekend for £5. Dress tried on, fitted wonderfully and duly bought. My first item of clothing bought since I got made redundant in Jan. Still looking for a tray type thing though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi all
I found this thread by accident and I absolutely love it. I would say that a good 70% of my clothes come from CS now.
Its not really about the moneysaving for me. I like the fact its giving money to charity, and the fact that I usually have no idea what I want clotheswise until I see it, and I find "normal" shops overfacing. I love the randomness of CS purchases as well.
I have been working a lot of hours lately and so my treat is I try and sneak off for a hour and check out the local CS, and some weeks I get nothing and some weeks I find loads of things and have a splurge.
This week I got 4 blouses, 2 vest tops, a PJ top (bottoms missing but I have loads) and some brand new shoes for dd. Total spend across the 3 CS was £15.Aims for 2014
Drink a glass of water a day, Empty handbag at least once a week, Continue "not putting things off" and tackle things head on, Treasure people around me, Stay healthy and well away from hospitals, Continue to declutter/decorate house slowly and not get stressed because I can't do everything at once.0 -
Two lovely blouses in the window of my local Age UK shop, but it's shut today.
Fingers crossed (a) they are my size & (b) they are still there when I finish work tomorrow.0 -
Not quite a charity shop, but I went to an Easter fair for a local cat shelter and got 6 items of second hand clothing for £5!
A little black dress with a layered skirt and a corset back for nights out
A lovely long red skirt
A beige knee length skirt
A brown vest with sequins for Summer
A green and white striped t-shirt
A pair of smart black trousers0 -
For ages I have been hankering after some Turkish coffee cups for my espresso after seeing one on an interior design blog, but the shipping cost (from Turkey) made them too expensive to buy from Ebay.
Found a set of six today in a charity shop for £2.50, I was delighted! They are exactly like the ones in THIS PHOTO and exactly what I wanted.
Also this week I found a cookbook I'd been searching for for a couple of years but which was out of print and an extortionate price on Amazon marketplace, it was £2 and I absolutely snatched it from the shelf and ran to the counter to pay! And also a very nice Lindsay Bareham book for 50p. Very pleased with my little haul this week.0 -
Angeltreats: I'm sooo envious of those coffee cups, they're gorgeous.
Went on a chazzer hunt on Saturday, but no bargains in my (average) size, must slim down to an 8-10 (no chance)!Normal people worry me.0 -
Haven't been in a CS for a while as we're on a spending lock down BUT the best bargains I've ever had (apart from tea sets/cake stands which I am addicted to buying - 1930s to 1960s thank you, nothing later) is a hand made in London tweed suit for other half which fitted him perfectly which was £12 (c 8 years ago) and I got a lovely green pitlochery 100% wool jumper for £4.... Hmmmm might have a charity shop wander soonBut I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0

No luck for the last couple weeks, but I just found a John Lewis duvet cover for only £4! Nice neutral cream colour--should look lovely in the guest room!0

I got a beautiful Sanderson double duvet cover + two pillowcases for £5, practically new. My best bargain yet - I don't usually find much in the way of bedding that I want to buy.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
