  • My fave hospice shop has reopened after a very long two weeks! I picked up six Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, some hardback and all in good condition for 50p each. That was on Monday, DD has read three of them already :D

I was afraid the prices would skyrocket after the refurb but the children's stuff still seems fair, although some of the ladies clothes are now *ahem* optimistically priced. We shall see what happens there.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Oh deary, deary me. I had to walk past the Salvation Army Thrift Shop on my way to get my fruit & veg yesterday. I hadn't intended to buy anything because there's nothing that I'm in particular need of. And I have very little money. Which didn't stop me "just having a look". Found a nifty pair of boot-cut jeans £3, a heavy wooden knife-block £1.50, a wooden chopping-board 50 pence and a lovely red chenille cushion-cover for my sister for a whole 50 pence.

And then I popped round the corner to Islamic Relief and bought the most beautiful fuchsia, green and yellow sari with gold-foil printing on it for £4. This is going to be turned into window-treatment panels somewhere or other. Bliss!

Note to self: spend no more money on non-essentials, it's really needed for food instead. Just as well the market stall had 2 kilos of carrots for £1, two huge caulis for £1.20 and two punnets of strawberries also for £1

I interfered and was slightly more forthright with her than perhaps I should have been. The words "cheapskate", "charity", "greedy" and "bloody insulting" passed my lips. And I wasn't sorry, either. And neither were the other customers who gave me a round of applause. The bint paid the price asked and scuttled off. In deep shame, I hope.

Well done you! I used to volunteer in a charity shop and we used to get all sorts coming in. From people who'd just shoplift to the yummy mummies who'd try and argue with you about the way something was priced. In the end, the shop manager told us that if anyone tries to tell us there's something wrong with an item so can they have it for less, we were to say we couldn't sell it with a fault! That soon sorted out the genuine ones who'd buy it for 'full' price anyway from the blaggers who'd storm off in a huff.

I would never complain about a price in a charity shop. There's one nearby which is significantly more expensive than the others so I often don't go in there, but if I do then I just bite the bullet and pay what they're asking because the shop is the charity case, not me!
One sensible purchase at a time.

Congratulations to all who've found bargains over the past few days.

Nothing for me to report. Had a quick mooch as I was passing a couple of CS yesterday but nothing I had to have. Being very good with the pennies, DS big birthday next week & am organising a surprise party for him so having to be strict with myself & stay focused especially as found out this week that hours are being reduced at work so less pennies all round. Never mind, Keep Calm & Carry On!

Been at work today & back again tomorrow & Sunday so it looks like another no CS spend week for me again but thanks to everyone who's posted & shared their finds. x

Another bargain from St Peter's Hospice this morning - a lovely purple long sleeved T-shirt that fits nicely and is in good condition for £1.95. :j It'll go nicely with the £4 jeans I bought on Monday.

I always go into the charity shops when I visit a new place and last wek I found a piece of fabric in an Oxfam in Saffron Walden (aprox 6 metres heavy upholstery fabric from Moygashel) for £6.99. Daren't do any more searching as would not have got my suitcase shut! Did spot a cashmere dress in another shop in the same town for £15, size 8 or 10 I think.
