  • I found a Playmobil pirate shipwreck today, still boxed, for the grand sum of £2.49. DS is thrilled!
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Wow, well done building with lego! I bet he is! Is it the one with the cannons poking through the side? & tiny cannon balls that can really be shot out of the cannons:j That brings back VERY happy memories for me.

My boy LOVED his Playmobil, had the castle, pirate ship, little men, knights, pirates etc. etc. Have kept it all (and his lovely Brio tracks & trains).

Awww, made me all misty eyed that has. My boy is 18 very soon, time flies so quickly. Hope your DS enjoys it, & hope you enjoy it with him.
  • Having a stroll in the sunshine yesterday I spotted a canvas shoulder bag, a kipling, just what I've been looking for and had 2 in mind from ebay/amazon for a lot more money than the £6.99 I happily handed over. A lovely summery turquiose.
  • I can't decide what has been the best thing this week - the latest P D James (Death at Pemberley - still at £12.99 in my local bookshop) for 50p, or a lovely M&S Collezione merino wool jumper for the OH (blue to match his eyes..) for £2.00!

My bargain of the week.....not that I need anything, I'm even well stocked up with books, but............a Jaeger Cashmere jumper for £3.50?
Well, I just had to, didn't I? (Thank you Sally Army, my new best friend)!
    Normal people worry me.

Like most of you I didn't actually need anything from the CS today but I managed to pick up a Per Una appliqued top and a la redoute lacy wrap cardie from the sale rack at £1 each. Plus a big lego Clikits set to amuse DD over the holiday at 99p and an awesome black emo type sundress decorated with skulls and moths with a corset panel sounds weird but is very flattering for £3.50. All in all a good day!

ETA here's my dress - see it's not as weird as it sounds!

  • You are all very lucky with your charity shop bargains, I was inspired by this thread to have a look round a few myself but there were no bargains to be had I'm afraid, everything was really overpriced, I bought just books in the end!

Instead, I've found that putting my limited hand sewing skills to good use is paying off no ends, eg in BHS I bought a sweet little summer camisole top that should have been £18 for £1 (!) because one strap was broken - a very simple repair. Then I picked up this

BEAUTIFUL Warehouse dress which had a price tag of £65 for just £10 because the lace was torn, it took me all of ten minutes to repair. I'd encourage anyone with any form of sewing skills to hunt for bargains like this - sometimes it's even fun to camouflage a hole, stain or tear with a brooch, motif or other embellishment to customise an item of clothing and make it truly unique!

I took dd to the charity shop the other day. She had the day off as had grommits fitted the day before. I told her she could have what she wanted. I found 3 cook books, jenga game with all the peices and a cute little (like new) red handbag, dd picked out 12 books (one had a keyring with different discs to make different noises that all worked ) and all that came to £2.50. i asked her to check that it included the bag and jenga to make sure before i paid as so cheap! :p

Have you ever been to the Salvation Army CS just off Oxford Circus? That's most definitely worth spending the fare to get there.

    Could I ask which street...sounds like it`s worth a visit! :D
  • Princes Street but don't pop round there till Monday as I'm going for a sweep round of all the really good stuff tomorrow. ;)

You might get lucky and find some good clothing samples: Vogue magazine's HQ in Hanover Square is just yards away. If not, there are a lot of very posh people who live thereabouts so the finds are often very good indeed, especially curtains. Happy hunting!
