Really noticing the price mark-ups in a lot of shops lately :( Seems if something has a good label, no matter how tatty it is, it gets a high price.

I went in loads of local charity shops today, gave up before going in all of them because we were worn out! But I got:

Shoes, Primark, £2.49. I usually avoid Primark things in charity shops since they tend to be overpriced, but I thought these were very reasonable and I've been looking for some like this for ages.

Jumper, Topshop, £3.99. Nicer peachy colour in person!

High waisted black shorts, New York Laundry, £2.49. Really happy with these, been looking for some!

    Cream dress, £4.99.

I find a lot of charity shops are a lot more expensive than they used to be. They're more aware of how much an item is worth etc.

I went in about 4 shops yesterday, and came out with nothing :(

    I agree.
I went to a differnt place yesterday, must have gone into at least 10 charity shops and bought..........
    nothing!

In Cat Protection they had a Per Una dress from at least 4 years ago and wanted £19.99 for it!
Same shop had a TU maxi dress that probably cost less than £25 full price for £9.99.

    None of these were BNWT.

I was slightly tempted by a Mantaray (love this brand) maxi dress that fitted nicely but I thought the jersey was a bit thin so didn't bother.
That was £9.99 in BHF and I'd probably have bought it if it was £5.

Another pet hate - outside BHF they had a volunteer with a collecting bucket.
He wasn't rattling it or actually asking but I don't like it.

My spare change went to RNLI who had a collecting day and the super Raptor Centre who had brought owls, kestrels and buzzards and set up in the city centre. :T

Not a charity shop but a table-top sale for charity.

A Chinois for 75p, a Spong meat mincer complete with blades 50p and a Nutbrown icing gun and nozzles 75p.

I've wanted the first two for ever (since I saw them for the first time yesterday :rotfl:) and the icing gun is because I can't get to grip with an icing bag. Really pleased with my bargains! :)

A brown stripy George men's jumper for £3, 2 new cupcake boxes for 80p (to make flannel/sock cupcakes with) and 3 expensive-looking arty general greetings cards for 50p each.

I recently picked up a cashmere sweater & a lovely Next lambswool cardi for £5 for the two in the local animal rescue shop.

Then in our local hospice shop I found an H&M maxi dress, a Fat Face sun dress, 2 Regatta shirts, Craghopper walking trousers that are a perfect fit, some Benetton high-heeled leather brogues and a gorgeous Next white cotton s/sleeve blouse all for £15 :)

Hi guys. I do not know whether you are aware or not.
If you are living in London and your main intention is to find a deal/bargain not to donate, then IMHO you will get a better option from eBay.

Do a search you will find that a lot items with RRP over £1000 if you are lucky you might get it the fully functional one for less than £50.

But the thing with charity is that apart from acquiring the item you sometimes want to donate. So if this is what you want then eBay will not be the alternative.

But I can (almost always) try an item on in a charity shop before I buy but I can't if I buy from ebay.

I can also check for myself (without relying on a seller's opinion) the condition of an item in a charity shop but I can't if I buy from ebay.

I think most of the posts on here are about spending much less than £50 for an item.

And of course, although we ladies do like a bargain, if we buy from a charity shop, the charity benefits, not the ebay seller. :)

Also most charity shops have a refund policy so that you can take things back if they don't fit etc,
and there's the bonus of getting your item straight away,
the price of postage since the latest RM price changes have made some items too expensive to be competitive,
then there's being able to find/look through a range of items easily, i.e not having to rely on getting the right search terms to find the item you're looking for (and some sellers descriptions & titles are worse than useless,
not having to wait for the auction to end,
    no stress of bidding wars,
not having to have/use a paypal account to pay,
and then waiting for the postie to deliver it (or having to pick it up if you get a red postcard! :p
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
