This is MSE - lots of us don't have spare cash to be more generous with!
Some people have posted that they have paid more than asked when they have known the item was worth more, or when they have had more money to spare.
Many of us donate lots to the charity shops (when we can) too.
Lastly, the charity shops decide the prices - we pay them. I don't think anyone in this thread has ever said they have tried to haggle down reasonable prices (or even unreasonable ones), though many of us despair of over priced items, like Primark clothes at Wallis (etc) prices!
But while I fully accept I have just shot your comment down in flames, I do agree that is nice to give generously to charities that you support through your own personal choice (not just because they are reselling something you want to buy), as and when you can!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Totally agree with above poster.
I got a lovely navy blue M & S tunic for £2.50 today, from the BHF shop. Fits like a glove and looks like new.
I also donated a bag full of books, a couple of jigsaws and several good quality items. Win Win !

Thanks for the advice, all drilled, bent and waiting to be attached.

Disco Troll (with handbag/purse and original costume, like new without a box) £1.50 paid, worth approx £12.50 (ebay)
This absolutely gorgeous JFW dress, very flattering and great quality, with original tags, I don't think it was ever worn £4.50 paid, can't find the actual dress online, but the similar ones sell for £70-120 new (chuffed because most similar dresses tend to emphasise my belly, hips and bum)
(I donate to charity shops fairly regularly, and I've never tried to haggle.)0 -
Let's not forget that charity shops are businesses too, and in some cases a disappointingly low proportion of the takings actually reaches the charity.
Besides, they don't pay for their stock, so whatever they get for an item is pure profit. It's up to the senior staff to price things realistically.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
