I haven't bought anything recently, but....I am currently decorating my son's bedroom as he is soon coming home from Uni to live with me...and I have bought a double bed for him. He previously had a high sleeper with a desk and chair under (in very good condition). I went into my local Hospicecare furniture shop to ask if they would want it..they said yes and gave me a day and time that they were going to pick it up...they never turned up. I went into the shop the next day, and asked if they still wanted it 'cos they didn't show, the guy said yes they did want it...and arranged another day....guess what...? they didn't show again! I'm not very happy.0

Seems CSs have a bit to learn about valuing donors. Where would they be without us??0

I bought a lovely beaded bag from oxfam today, 99p. I have to say I volunteered for the red cross for a year and my mum still does and I never see anyone in my local branch being rude to anyone, ever. Whether its selling stuff or accepting donations and yes a lot of volunteers they get are from young teenagers on work experience programmes sent by the job centre. I gave my time when I was unemployed and my mum started when I couldnt do it anymore due to having found work, she works during the week and volunteers on a saturday.
The rudest people I encounter on a daily basis are first glasgow bus drivers. You get the odd gem but many of their drivers are rude, openly cheeky and downright hostile at times. Much worse than anyone who has ever served me in a shop. Off topic, but just when you are talking about good and bad customer service.0 -
Been after a nice, large plant pot for a huge plant someone gave me (I say plant, I really mean indoor tree) but they are incredibly expensive. Found a lovely one today, perfect size, looks nice in the room and suits the plant - cost me £3. Would have been probably £50 in the local garden centre. Chuffed to bits.0

I had an amazing CS find recently! Was in Stratford Upon Avon where there was a street market. The Alzeimers Society had a stall there with a nearly new breakmaker for £15 complete with all the recipe cards! I've been after a breadmaker for ages so snapped it up, just needed a quick wipe down but it works brilliantly. I'm delighted with it!January grocery challenge £96.46/£1000

Try Freecycle. They are often good at picking it up and that means you could clear your room.0 -
Out of curiousity do other OS fans that this is the best forum? I never find anyone being horrible or derogatory but on the Ebay forum and others they virtually spill blood! Perhaps it`s just me who wants to duck for cover...!0

If you have a local branch of Emmaus (www.emmaus.org.uk) they will come and collect furniture. I've rung them on several occasions and they always come at the agreed date/time.0 -
Sadly our day out trawling the charity shops yesterday was ruined as my mum had just gotten £50 out of the bank, and her purse was stolen.
We think it was when she noticed a load of clothes on the floor in a charity shop, called to let the assist know & someone swiped her purse out of her bag.It may even have been a deliberate distraction so they could get in her bag.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

I think its because all the people here live in the real world - trying to make ends meet. You are right - everyone here is kind and generous & celebrates a good bargain whether its their own or someone else's!
kitsch so sorry to hear of the theft from your Mum - she must feel absolutely sick - give her a big hug from meSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
