I bagged a pair of BNWT Boden long surf shorts for DS at the weekend - £2.99 from a CS in Weymouth. They would have been at least £20 new. They are the next size up so I will put them in his too big box.0

In the third was a very miserable volunteer. I spotted some perfume in the cabinet near the till and got excited because I have started collecting perfume. The perfume was SJP Lovely. Then I saw the price £15, I can buy it new for £20 . I found some leggings for my daughter which were £1.49. I took them to the miserable woman. I handed over two pound coins. She gave me one penny change. I asked where the other 50p was and she said she thought it was £1.99. She asked to see the price label. It was her mistake but I felt like I was being accused of trying it on. She did apologise and give me the 50p. I was then waiting for my daughter to come out of the changing room. It felt a bit awkward and so I tried to make small talk but she bit my head off. I could not wait to get out of there.
So, no real bargains for me. There is a couple in the City Centre that I never normally bother going to, so I may give them a try in the week. I hope that I have a bit more luck.
I know exactly how you feel. I've stopped giving to some of our local shops because of the attitude of the staff. I've tried handing things over in the shop and have had staff just grab things off me without even a thank you. Last week I tried to give a bag of things in at the sorting room at the back. There were three people gossiping in there, they just looked through me and carried on! Actually I think some of the 'helpers' may be unemployed doing it for work experience/building a cv. Boy, do they need it!!0 -

Sorry you've encountered bad manners, but we're not all like that I promise!Everyone at the shop I work at are polite and always grateful for new donations, after all, that's what keeps us open!
A lot of volunteers are unemployed (myself excluded), and are doing it for either work experience/for their CV, or just for something to do, to get some of their confidence back, to help ease them back into the world of work, and also (in my case), to give something back to a charity that means something to them.
I worked in retail (Comet) for 16 years before I was made redundant, so I guess I've got that customer service/retail background drummed into me, and I treat my work at the charity shop, just as I would treat work at a high street shop, you're still dealing with the public/serving customers, and you should always treat everyone the same.
I don't know if every charity shop is the same, but we get mystrey shopped, just like any other shop and have targets etc, so it really is just like any other retail operation, so if the above shops (with the miserable people!) are too, they're not really doing themselves any favours.0 -
Oh, btw, how do you insert a photo? My latest bargain buy deserves to be shown off. :rotfl:0

Off to do some 'proper' shopping this morning, but I'm sure I won't be able to resist the lure of a CS or two.......................;)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Well slim pickings it seemed today - or just maybe I wasn't in the mood (cold coming on:() I did manage to get a pair of red leather Cotton Traders moccasins for £5 in our local hospice shop and a nice deep pink cotton roll neck for £1.99 in Sue Ryder but that was my lot! Couldn't find any books either.....!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Amazing CS day for me! Stunning turquoise Per Una jacket £4.99 and a M&S summer top £2.99 both in British Heart Foundation. Also picked up a pretty Next linen skirt for 99p in Oxfam, and my absolute favourite buy is a real leather handbag from Autograph at M&S for £4.99. It is gorgeous and similar to a Mulberry style bag. Very pleased with my haul!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0

Hi.
I read this thread before setting off to hit the CS today and think I did pretty well. I got:
Black Wallis trousers (£5) - fits perfectly and in excellent condition
BNWT Laura Ashley top (£9.99) - very flattering with £40 tag
Oasis dress (£2)
Tesco dress (£2)
Red Herring cotton summer dress (£2)
FF Tesco cardi/shrug (£2) - needed one for my maxi dress
I'm glad I got inspired by your posts and checked the CS today. Thanks to all those who posted:)0 -
I had just tried on my summer clothes, mostly size 18 and found that they were a size too big. I bagged them up for charity and popped in with them. Someone had obviously donated lots of Per Una and Monsoon stuff, size 16 so I bought 3 skirts and 3 tops for £23. I have a few occasions when I will need a new outfit in the coming months, so I am quids in. Really happy with my purchases and more than happy to donate my "too big" clothes for the greater good, LOL.
Who knows, I might be bagging the new stuff up by the end of summer and "trading it in" for a size 14. I do hope so.0
